Anyone applying for RCC's Fall 2015 Nursing program?
Thought I'd start a thread to communicate about applying, TEAS, etc.
Hi I just found this amazing conversation!!!! I got an email from RCC as an alternate and I seen you had got one to but said you got offered the spot as an RN!!!! how exciting. My question to you was did they mention anything about more alternates being accepted or any other hopeful news? Im so nervous I would love a spot in the program but all I have faith.
@reinar You gotta have faith and stay positive! I was told they will be pulling from the alternate list up until the first week of school. It all depends on the current students going into the program. A student can deny their spot for many reasons, not have immuniations complete, or something comes up with the back ground. My email said the bring an average of 5-20 students off alternate list. One semester the whole alternate list got in plus some that were originally denied. Stay positive and make sure you have all your immuniations and money put aside for books so if they do call you last minute. Some immuniations may have to be done 30 days apart (happened to me with MMR). Good luck!!
Reinar, I'm not sure if you got the chance to read what one of the nursing students said. She said she was an alternate last semester too and she did all her immunizations. She got in a few day before school started i think. Show up to intake day and even to the first day of class. You never know! Good luck!!
How we will all feel after we get all our books!
And yes I still have a slight headache from all of the information :)
I just bought all of the books online though, from half, and amazon. Then I will buy all the course points from the RCC store. Doing it that way saved me about $300. It's still a fortune, but oh well.
Luna you bought all the required books online frm amazon and you're going to buy the access codes from the rcc bookstore?
did you save a lot? Have any of you thought of using ebooks? And what did you guys think about the backpack they didnt really give us much info about how many books we will have to carry daily
Hi guys I found out through Coursepoint that the coursepoint products come with a digital copy of the books so don't double buy. You can always get a used copy of that particular book just to have a hard copy, but when you purchase the Coursepoint it comes with the digital copy of the book.
I have two e books, the brunners guide and the contemporary nursing. I found them both online for free. If you google the name of the book followed by PDF you'll find it :)
I saved about $300 overall doing it that way...I spent 3.5 hours online trying to make sure I was making the right decision. I almost just went with the packages at RCC, but I forgot about tax, so those totals are even more then they say.
As of right now I am not going to get a rolling backpack. A friend of mine in the program said it's a hassle to wait for the elevator every time you want to go upstairs in the nursing building or the library which is a good point! And I am just nervous about spending the money on one and then not using it. That being said, I still think they are great and I will probably be jealous of everyone that has one :).
I am going to get a small crate like this: Amazon.com - Sterilite Corp. 16928006 Storage Crate - Garage Storage And Organization Systems and leave it in my car probably!
I'm debating on a crate too! They also have the rolling back packs with straps. Im going to get hard copies of the texts only because I highlight and flip through pages so much.
What clinicals are you all looking at? Im want cohort B and hopefully county hospital because it's closer to my house. I live almost an hour away from campus.

I was also considering a kindle. most of those books are offered as an e book on amazon.
