Anyone applying for RCC's Fall 2015 Nursing program?

Thought I'd start a thread to communicate about applying, TEAS, etc.

anyone gonna get a jump start on reading over summer and finding the best prices? So far Amazon looks like it has the best prices on used books.

I haven't started buying the books yet but I'm wondering if they will allow us to have a previous edition of some of the material. A few of my friends have some of these books and my mother has the Med Surg, but it's the 12th edition. She might have a pdf of the 13th edition I'll have to find out,but to save money I hope it's a possibility because I am so cheap lol. I'll have to ask at intake.

I made an excel sheet last week comparing all the prices from Amazon, half, eBay, RCC, etc.!

I'll bring that with me to intake day so I can compare, it's hard to pull the trigger because from what I've read they offer two packages, and one from last fall was a really good deal and they got a coupon? And a lot of the books you need an access code, so I wanna se how much the access code is by itself first.

@MsYoung, def check on older editions. Most I've my classes I've always bought older editions but who knows with Nursing school.. It's a whole new world!

@lunalove, I read about the coupons for the bundle books through the threads too. They saved a few hundred so fed gonna wait in those! I was reading that the Taylor book is a good one to read to prepare over summer:up:

That's a really good idea! I'm gonna try that so you can see where you save the most & it's true access codes are expensive. Maybe the packet will be a good deal. Thanks for the idea!

Hello everyone I was curious as to how much the uniforms were going to cost I called the nursing Dept this morning they said the top and bottom run 45 dollars each so about 90 to 100 dollars for onenset. The recommend 2 sets, the embroidery comes with the uniforms so you don't have to worry about adding that. He also said the uniforms require 100 percent black shoes. The uniform vendor will be there on Wednesday so we will have an opportunity to try everything on and either purchase then, or online at a later date. Just thought I'd share with everyone 😄☺

Thanks for the info! Have you guys started looking at backpacks? I never thought I would use a rolling backpack but after seeing the textbook list I'm for sure getting one! Zuca makes a cool one, but over $140!

I was looking at duffle/ messenger type of bags. I haven't bought one yet because I'm waiting on intake day. I'm hoping we don't have to carry them all with us. Depending on how many books we need to carry.

I have been debating about the rolling backpack for 6 months.. My poor husband has went with me to look at so many, I just don't know what to do.

Ive read a lot about how you use it a lot the first semester and then when you figure out what you really need to bring you won't use it as much.

Also during my anatomy class I unbound my text books and then had it spiral-bound into sections that we were tested on and it was the best decision I've ever made. I love how I could fold over because of the spiral binding... So I might do that again for nursing school.

If you type in "debinding textbooks" on all nurses you can find a lot of pros and cons on doing it.if I did this I wouldn't need to get a rolling bag because I'd only be bringing sections of the books..

that is a great idea! I'm gonna do that! I would much rather carry sections with me than all those books. This way I could have a regular back pack and not be carrying so much weight.

Do any of you know if we wear our uniforms to class?

That's a great idea! When a friend of mine was in nursing school she kept all her books and papers in a big tote in the trunk of her car. She wore a regular backpack and only brought what she needed for that class, but always had her backup in the tote.
