Yeah I know I'm wondering if I'm the only one who thinks the point scale brought down the points alot

I had done a mock points evaluation when my friend applied last semester. I would have 4 more points before taking the TEAS with the old system. After the TEAS, the gap would widen more. It appears that most people are going to experience a drop in points. I will say, I did like how they redistributed the points so that more people with medical experience were able to get points. This does not apply to me unfortunately. While I'll be applying a semester later than everyone, I hope everyone is able to relax a bit better knowing that they are not alone in seeing a dip in points.

Hello all, I will be applying this September. I am studying now for the TEAS, but am wondering when to do my physical for the program. I just moved to this area from San Diego, so I have not yet gone to a workshop here. I did go to one before, in San Diego though. So far all I found on the webpage is that admission to the program is pending the physical and CPR card. Any information helps.

Hi Ariana,

I would recommend getting into contact with the Nursing Enrollment & Evaluations Specialist either by phone or by e-mail. I know the CPR card requirement should be fulfilled fairly close to when courses start in order to last you throughout the duration of the program. I think one of my friends said to get the physical after getting your letter of acceptance to the program. You could set up an appointment in anticipation of being accepted. I will ask around and see if I can get one of my friends to let me know what they did.

No, you're right that the new point scale lowered the amount of points. If you took both nursing prep courses, you can only get 2 points for one of the classes, where those who applied in the spring received 10 points (that's 8 points less). If you are a volunteer with >200 hours of direct patient care, you get 1 point now instead of 5 points (4 points less). And the points awarded for the TEAS were also lowered (5 points less for each bracket of TEAS scores). The positive is that 4 points were added for taking Statistics, which will prepare you for transferring to a 4-year college to pursue a Bachelors or higher. They emphasize that the majority of points are still earned through your GPA and the TEAS.

Ooh good thanks for pointing out the differences that makes me feel a whole lot better. My question is with the optional nursing classes you can take? I see it's a max of 7 points. I have my EMT which will give me 3 but what puzzles me is what is down below where it says and NRN 93 or NXN 84. I already did NRN 93 and I'm taking NXN 84 now but I'm wondering if your only suppose to do one of those? My guess is you can do both to get 4 points?

It's a max of 7 points because there is a possibility of 5 points for those who are LVNs, Paramedics, etc. AND if they take one of the nurse prep courses, they will receive 2 points. There is a max so if someone happens to be, for example, an EMT and an LVN, they can only get points for one of those, not both (the reason for the "OR" in between each category).

For the nurse prep courses, we only get credit for one of the classes for 2 points total (a big difference from the Fall cohort who got 5 points for each class for a total of 10 points). Even if you take both courses, you will only get 2 points for one of them (also the reason for the "OR" on the points sheet). It's beneficial to take both because they are informative for those entering the program, but just know that only one will get you points.

Hope that helps!

Thank you so much for the info, definitely appreciated! =)
