I know the midterm has 4 Summarize Your Learning Essays. Are these different then the ones we hand in as homework? She says we should know all 46 of them and I think that is rediculous. So has anybody taken the midterm?
Yah i knew the posts were a few yrs old but It is good to warn students ahead of time about how ridiculous the bio156 class is @ rio salado. I did not do well on my midterm. I would have done better if my teacher would have guided me in a better direction as to what would be on the test. None of the questions that were from our homework assignments were on the midterm, the only way I could have done better was to do ALL of the assignments in the chapter reviews in the book. That is alot of homework to be doing with quizzes and essays on top of that. Makes you wonder if they are making this class harder on purpose to discourage students. I had a better chemistry class through south mountain cc and didn't even have crazy amounts of homework like this bio156 class. I will be reporting my teacher @ the end of this class and giving them a very low evaluation as my teacher has already shown poor judgement after grading a lab assignment i did.
My next biology class will be taken @ one of the other community colleges.
So for anyone that reads this post regarding the midterms and finals I would highly recommend not going by your quizzes from the homework assignments. Do the review in the back of each chapters just as ajhill00 is basicly saying the same thing.
Hi Blue, so I see your post is the most current re: Bio 156 @ Rio Salado.... Thank you for this.... I am takin this class now, and it is the hardest class I have ever taken.. I have learned a lot, however I still have a 59%... I have an instructor with her PhD, and she is no help.. She is very critical, and I also have gotten 0 on my essays and labs because of how particular she is!!! Tickin me off... Anyhow any help or helpful information to gear me up for the Final?????? Any information would be awesome as I need to pass this to move on to BIO 201... Thank You Future Nursing Student...

Oh my gosh! I am sorry to hear that! Next semester, I might take BIO156 as a pre-requisite course of BIO202, and your post is making me real nervous! I wish I could do all of the Science courses at other MCC. I am also an aspiring nursing student of ASU, and I am completing the 17 pre-req courses at Rio Salado.
Hi pre-NAU,
I jumped into Rio Salado Bio156 thinking it wouldn't be that bad, as you only do mid and final in person. It is tough!!!! I think by the time this class ends Iwill know more on the Micro-Bio side which will help later in Bio 205. I hear PC has it offered online and sounds not as intense, possibly mid and final are taken at home. If I fail this time at Rio, then I will check out PC and re-take again.. Hope I do fine, I am studying like crazy... I have taken many other classes with RIO, and I did great..... I think these next few classes will be taken in person......I have Bio 201,202 & 205. And my Chem..... then all done... Yeah!!!!
Hello!
Yes, you are right. I also heard that many Rio Salado students are having a hard time taking Science courses at Rio Salado, and that instructors are making it tougher. So, I might take these BIO classes in-person; I also think that Rio Salado, is the only MCC that has tough Science instructors, and that makes me intimidated because I have to ace an A at all Science courses.. If there are other MCC that offers these classes "totally" online (midterm and final are take-at-home), I will probably choose this route rather than taking them in-person at Rio Salado to save time and gas money :)
Yes! The bio classes at Rio are hard & time consuming. I took 156, 201, 202 & 205 there.I took pathophysiology online at Gateway CC. The mid term and final were taken at home. + there were none of the BRUTAL timed quizes as there were at Rio for 201 & 202.
I am gonna check out gateway and pc tonight, would love to know how they do their exams???
I am also currently taking BIO156 online @ Rio... omg it is ridiculous! There are SO many essays, and I agree with instructors being particular, I have been marked down for some seriously ridiculous stuff. I am barely holding on to a B in the class, and I'm pretty sure after the midterm that is coming up my grade will drop to a C. I feel like it's more of an English class than a Science class to be honest!
I definitely won't be taking anymore science classes at Rio.

Oh and their is no teaching at RIO... it's sink or swim, no help from teachers or "teaching" is provided. Only the class materials that cover 10 times more information than any person could absorb in the time frame, it's a crapshoot really.
