  1. I'd review the whole patient consenting process, learn the different OR table patient positions, how to give a good hand off report and how to assess a patient history and medication list. Good luck!
  2. Just go over the modules, only. Don't add anything extra. The final exam is on the MODULES. I passed with an 82%
  3. Thanks guys. Yes, I guess it boils down to following the checklist precisely & never assume anything.
  4. Hello All - I'm in the middle of orienting as an OR circulator. I'm a new grad RN. In addition to circulating, I'm training to scrub however, I anticipate scrubbing only occasionally once off orientation. What are the bid mistakes I need to avoid in my practice? I've been told to be meticulous about the surgical consents (rt patient, rt procedure, signatures etc.) And of course, don't let a pt fall off the OR table. Can you help me out with some others?
  5. It seems to me that if the "elites" in nursing really prefer BSN's, then they should insist that the National Council make a BSN a minimum requirement to qualify to take NCLEX. Will this ever happen? PS: I'm an ADN'er new grad (in an RN>BSN program) just hired by a hospital.
  6. I'm lucky enough to be a new grad starting in the OR too. They're training me as an OR circulator. I bought Alexader's 12th edition (not 13th) for about $25 used on Amazon.
  7. How about mention the 1:1 nurse patient ratio (not many RNs get to be with one pt at a time!), the honor of providing healthcare to a person on a pivotal day of their life, the day of their surgery. The RN is the patient's guardian and advocate while in the OR.
  8. How much does the program cost? I'm starting Block 1 at MCC in August and plan do the RN-BSN program when I'm done in two years. Can I be taking any ASU's classes NOW, to get them "out of the way"?
  9. Ah, ok I see. Yes, the instructor for the class I'm looking at is the same one you have. 'Glad to know he's good I'm starting Block 1 of Mesa CC's program in August. When I complete that and pass (hopefully) NCLEX, I want go directlyinto ASU's online RN to BSN program. The RN to BSN program at asu requires CHM 130 and PSY 230 as pre-reqs. Maricopa doesn't (they'll take one full year of high school chemistry, which i have). I want to take thses classes now so that when I 'm done at MCC, I'm not faced with taking CHM 130 and PSY 230 before moving on. When will you take BIO 156?
  10. Sounds good! Yes, the labs are at home. I'm only in the second week though. So, far it doesn't seem that hard. I think if you've taken bio 201, 202 and microbiology you have already been exposed to a lot of the material (pH, alkalinity, bicarbonate, etc). The essasys seems like they'll be on the shorter side (3 paragraphs or so). The mid term and final are NOT at home and account for 2/3 of the overall score.
  11. How was PSY 230? I might sign up for a section at Rio that starts tomorrow, may 9. How many weeks did your course last? The one I'm looking at is 8, I believe. I'm also currently taking an 8 week CHM 130 class. I'm wondering if the two together would be too much. ? I'm highly motivated to get them both out of the way. Thanks!
  12. Yes! The bio classes at Rio are hard & time consuming. I took 156, 201, 202 & 205 there. I took pathophysiology online at Gateway CC. The mid term and final were taken at home. + there were none of the BRUTAL timed quizes as there were at Rio for 201 & 202.
  13. I took CPR for HCP last Saturday w/ the City of Tempe. The instructor mentioned that he is teaching the class for $15 this Saturday, 4/16 at his church this Saturday. Corpus Christi Church. He is a nice guy, his name is -----, I believe. We were done in 2.5 hours. 14. I got my first choice, MCC Traditional during the second round of placements on March 15. My time stamp was 10/16/09 8:00.08 Over 40 applicants didn't follow up after being placed in the first round on 3/1, & were withdrawn! From the status page: "We withdrew over 40 applicants that had reaffirmed their interest on/after the reset on 2/22 but who did not respond to placement (2 emails and a USPS letter) and could not be reached/did not return our phone calls."
  15. Greetings! I too, recently got accepted for the fall at MCC. My stamp was 10/16/09 8:00.08 I got in on the SECOND round of placements they made last Tuesday, 3/15. MCC was my first choice, so I was pretty happy! Interestingly, there was a note on the page where you log into to check your status that said that over 40 placement offers were rescinded because applicants who reaffirmed on or after 2/22 didn't not respond after being placed in the first round for fall 11. Imagine that! I guess this what got me a spot! I have taken Pathophysiology and liked it. I will look for the iTunes nursing lectures from MCC and review those over the summer. I am currently taking Spanish for Healthcare Workers. Looking forward to meeting everyone.
