Rio Hondo Fall 2018

Published

This is a thread for Fall 2018 future ADN students at Rio Hondo. Share experiences, stats, or general questions before application opens/closes.

Does that mean that those of us who did not receive a letter were not admitted into the program?

it seems as though that may be the case :(

Hi guys! I totally understand the anxiety. I didn't get my letter yet either and gave the nursing dept a call. Carolyn assisted me and was able to tell me what my application status was. Unfortunately I was eligible, but wasn't selected. You can give them a call at (562) 908-3421. Best of luck to everyone else and congrats to those who were provisionally accepted!

Im really conflicted in calling cause I dont want to end up crying over the phone

Darn, I had:

4.0 science prereq

3.5 overall gpa

CNA certified

84% on teas 1st attempt

Low income, first generation to attend college.

It seems so tough to get in :(

Has anyone gotten a reply back from Clarissa Bateman for the fire safety and mandatory meeting for next week?

Yes, I was out of town over the weekend and I didn't open my letter till Sunday night, so I emailed her asap and she replied to me Monday morning. I had also emailed her a question today and she replied promptly.

IF you didn't get in (still hopeful), it seems like you would've justtt needed either a degree (AA/BA) or even a 2nd language, to have been accepted. Because your stats are pretty competitive.

Do you have any volunteer hours/experience behind your CNA certification?

I got a reply on Monday from her!

Wow, I'm surprised you didn't get in either. Have you talked to the nursing department? It might've been a clerical error or your transcripts didn't get to them on time.

I tried calling today but there was no answer, it just went to a prerecording. I'll try again later. I think its strange that many of us didn't relieve an email or a letter. I do not have an AA, degree, but this semester I'll have two, and I did not have any CNA experience at the time, since I had just gotten my certification. Overall i thought my stats were competitive, I guess I need some experience as well.

I'm surprised you didn't get in, but Having experience helps because you can get a letter from work.. my coworker graduated from there and gave me some tips such as getting that letter from Work (I have 4 yrs of CNA experience), She even wrote a simple letter saying how I was first generation and my interaction with the patients etc. I wrote a letter explaining how I'm first gen., have a need to work, my goals,etc....i included check stubs from when I took my prereqs, copy of my fin.aid... it also helped that I took the CNA program at Rio, I have 3 AAs from Rio.. with an academic renewal I had a 3.4 and science prereqs 3.69. 86% on Teas

Oh yeah .. my coworker mentioned to me that they have a list of contacts of those who were previously in and those who are in the program.. so they only answer those calls. Whenever she calls they answer promptly and greet her by name. That was interesting to find out because before I received my letter I wouldn't get an answer as well

Same. I have 3.93 Cumulative GPA, and did super well on science pre-reqs and teas was okay. I will have a bachelors degree next spring so I shall try again next year if I do not hear back...
