Rio Hondo College ADN Spring 2024

Published

Hello. I haven't seen a thread for Rio Hondo ADN Spring 2024 applicants so I made one for anyone else who is applying and has questions or wants to keep in touch for the application process.
Best of luck to everyone!

What about the new request for the 23-34 Covid booster? Did anybody upload theirs before she requested the newest one? Because I did mine early on so it shows as complete and I can't figure out how to update it for the new booster I just got.

I had to call the support number to have them manually remove my old booster so I could reupload my updated immunization record. Was not too bad to do but it did take like 20 minutes from being on hold.

If your heart is set on this school get ready.

My advice would be to go to another school. This school will send acceptance letters earlier than others and most students will jump at the opportunity to be in any program BUT if later you do get another acceptance letter from a different school, GO TO THAT OTHER SCHOOL. They don't have sufficient staff (professors, clinical instructors, etc) and administration are professors who are in interim (Dean, and there will be no assistant Dean this coming school year). The projected class capacity for lecture is 45 students, AND YES THEY WILL FILL ALL SEATS, and clinicals will be 12. With that being said, this a self study program and the teachers will seldomly answer emails and aren't available for office hours.

And where does this insight come from?

Well that's ominous. Do you have any examples or stories to share? I think every nursing program has it's bad side, it's never perfect.

Thank you for the feedback. I don't mean to disrespect but please don't discourage many us who got accepted to the program. Many of us Rio Hondo was our only shot due to the competitiveness of the admission. No one said nursing school was going to be easy. But it's already given that any college course require self study. I think we'll be fine; Rio hondo got great passing rate for NCLEX and that's all that matters, we take the exam and pass to become a nurse

100% agree with you! If you expect to be spoon fed and have your hand held the entire way, you're going to struggle. I'll take your warning into consideration but it's not going to discourage or stop me from going forward with this program. It just is what it is. Their NCLEX scores speak for themselves, bad reviews are always louder than the positive ones anyway.

More than likely, it's coming from someone who didn't make it. I literally work with so many nurses who either just recently, nurses who one year ago, or even nurses who a couple years ago graduated from Rio Hondo's nursing program, and are great nurses! No matter what you do in life you have to put in the effort if you expect output. "be wise", sorry that you may have had a bad experience, but that doesnt make it OK for you to go around trying to discourage others. There are so many ways to ensure success for yourself, study groups, tutors, there are so many nursing guides out there.

You're literally in these classes for hours with these instructors, sometimes 12 hours, with instructors, who, by the way are active nurses, and who have lives and other jobs. If you can't build up the courage to go up to these instructors when you have them in your presence to clear some thing up, then IDK what to say.

FYI, staffing is an issue at most, if not all, nursing schools in the country as they have a hard time competing salary and benefits-wise with bedside/clinical work. Teaching pays less. Nurses can earn more working elsewhere. There are lots of news articles on the subject. It was the same at my LVN program. That doesn't mean it's a bad program. Ultimately, we, as nursing students, are responsible for putting in the work and making sure we are prepared for exams, clinicals, and NCLEX—no one else.

RN Supervisor at my previous job was a recent graduate of Rio Hondo. He said it was a good program, and he was well prepared. He's now working on his MSN-FNP.

Has anyone ordered the uniforms? And can we wear different brands if they are the same colors?

Yes and yes! Just make sure you at least order the patch from the website, it can be any white shirt and pewter bottoms, as long as you have the Rio Hondo nursing student patch
