RIO HONDO ADN Summer/FALL 2020

Nursing Students School Programs

Hi,

I have not seen a thread for people who applied for the upcoming Summer/fall start at Rio Hondo so wanted to create one. I know the deadline for the applications just passed but feel free to post stats or questions that you may have. Goodluck to everyone :- )

For everyone who just finished the conference call, how do you guys feel about how they do not plan on extending the May 8th deadline for pretty much everything that needs to be scanned & uploaded? I know they have a strict time schedule to follow because they're dependent upon the rules set in place by the clinical sites, but it just seems like not enough time.

Is there something that would give you a hard time to upload by the due date? I think it's OK, I'm just glad that Summer wasn't canceled. They gave us that sheet of medical things they would need when we gave in applications, so I had started the process a few weeks ago. Just try to make all your appointments right now and schedule everything to be done the same day. It took me 7 days to get my lab work back. For scanning I'm just going to use an app.

Yep, I downloaded the app that they talked about for scanning items. I'm not concerned with uploading stuff, more so about trying to get in to get the blood work & physical done because none of those are necessary services. Someone had mentioned that their doctors office was closed until May. I'm also concerned about the CPR certification because I was looking at the website they want us to use & it doesn't look like it's a totally online thing. Maybe I missed something, but I'm not sure.

I asked the same thing in the meeting and although initially it feels overwhelming, I think it's doable. But yes, it would be nice if it was extended! You can try CVS minute clinic for the physical and vaccinations if you're not able to see your physician on time. I just called my doctor's office but since I'm a new patient with them, they won't see me until mid May, which is too late. This would be a good example to provide the school to let them know that it's difficult for some of us to get appointments in during this time. However, I know CVS minute clinic does vaccination shots and physicals, etc. so there are still other avenues if that is an issue. I'm planning on seeing Medpost clinics instead. I also called a local CPR school and they're still open for BLS classes, so I don't have an excuse for that. I think they offer hybrid online test where you take the test online and then go onsite for the skills portion. So just take it one step at a time but if it really becomes an issue, contact the school. I also already got blood work done (IGG) at my medical workplace, so I'm going to ask HR for my proof/documentation but just in case, I might get it all done again at the Medpost clinic. If Medpost or minuteclinic doesn't offer 2 step TB test, I'm screwed so I hope this works! It would be great if anyone else has any tips or where they're going to get all this done! I'm also going to Walgreens for the passport photo. ?

Hopefully it all works out for all of us & this can go relatively smoothly given the circumstances. I just got an email back from a woman @ my physicians office & was told that the entire John Muir Physicians Network are not seeing patients in person, & are only holding appointments virtually. Now I'm worried.

Alicia, the school/hospitals will ONLY allow BLS cards from the American Heart Association. Check the packet - would be unfortunate to lose your spot because of that mistake!

Yes, this is actually a re-cert for me so I know it has to be AHA BLS.

Well FYI, a patch comes with a few items, so don't purchase another one! I just made that mistake. Also, I didn't realize it was not necessary to purchase the clip board right now. But the lady was really nice and she is going to credit me back for those items I accidentally payed for. Their store location is in San Clarita...50 mins from me so I just placed the order online.

How long did it take once they took your blood to get your blood work results back? And I’m confused should I get my blood work done ASAP and it it shows I’m not immune then I just provide the vaccine sheet/ vaccine card to show I’ve gotten the vaccine?

Awesome ?

I work at a lab. Drug screens are very easy and take about 48 hours to process, all you need is a photo ID and the registration number provided by Castle Branch (9 digit number beginning with a 3). Blood work typically takes 3-5 days to get back to the ordering Provider.

So for the fire safety card, if I dont find a place, can our castlebranch still be completed if we have everything else without the fire safety card?

Thank you for responding ? would you have an estimate for the background check average time? I guess I’m just trying to time everything correctly. Like do you know if the May 8th deadline is for the results of the drug screen/background check or to make sure it has been atleast started by May 8th.
