Ridiculous

I've been going back and forth with this particular school about my chemistry that I have. It's from George Washington University the chemistry that I did, but it's on my military transcripts and the GWU transcripts make it seems like its vocational when it isn't. So I pulled up the right transcripts that says its undergrad and sent them over. This is what my transcripts say.

Clinical Chemistry 7SH

General Chemistry 5SH

Clinical Chemistry 4SH

This is the response I received back.

After careful review of your chemistry credit it has been determined that it will not fulfill our chemistry prerequisite requirements. We require applicants to take inorganic and organic chemistry, and your transcript states credit in "clinical chemistry".

I attached a list of our required prerequisite courses for the Traditional BSN degree. We accept in-state and out-of-state transfer credits, as long as they are obtained from a regionally accredited institution.

THEN. I was like, I cannot keep e-mailing like this, and then wait 3 days for an answer so I called.

I said NOTHING on the prereqs says anything about inorganic and organic chemistry. It only says 6 hours of Chemistry.

So then, she said fine, your General Chemistry can count as Chem 101(so much for "careful review"). She said it was only 5 credits not 6. I don't understand WHY they won't take clinical chemistry. I know it counts. I just need to send her the course descriptions and objectives tomorrow. This is so frustrating to me. Does this make any sense to you all???

Denied yet again. This time they said a few things weren't included in the description, but I went back and highlighted everything they said was missing which was clearly there.

Here is the deal...they hold all of the cards and it is up to them to accept and deny whatever they wish. Many places do this so they can obtain the revenue from the class taken at their facility that they accept.

It's all about revenue.

It doesn't matter what you think. you have to do what they want. As Esme says, they hold all the cards.

I could understand that if they actually offered prereq courses but they don't.

Loriangel, please stop responding to my threads your negativity and callousness is not needed thank you.

And it does matter what I think when they say something isn't included and it is. It really just seems like they aren't reading the course description. Even the VA, GWU and other people at the college think they're giving me the run around for arbitrary reasons.

I'm just saying they have the right to decide what they are going to accept. Arguing with them isn't going to get you any where. The schools call the shots, not the prospective students.Being realistic isn't being negative.

Yes of course it matters what you think......But it is their decision. They hold all the cards. You will not be able to change their mind and will only alienate them more by your insistence.

You can't beat a dog into submission without it eventually turning and biting you.

They have told you...more than once...that the courses you offered aren't going to be accepted. Now you can move to another school and move on....or you accept their decision and take the chemistry they require...from them.

You are only frustrating yourself. Life has many battles choose them wisely.

I don't think you really understand why I am pushing the issue. They say something isn't on my course description and it is. I was able to talk to another person today from the school who said it most likely won't be an issue. They were under the impression that the course descriptions and syllibi(sp?) were from the Army. Once I told them they were from GWU they were like OHHHH. And requested the transcripts from GWU. They said they could file a petition to have it accepted by the registrar. If I didn't push this issue, I would be behind 2 semesters AKA a whole YEAR, out some money, time, effort. I am paying THEM to do their job. Which is paying attention to detail. In fact it would be stupid for me not to push the issue. I don't know about everyone else, but I certainly can't afford just taking extra classes when they haven't been as thorough as they say they've been. There is NOTHING wrong with making them take you seriously, do what they say they will do, and hold them accountable for what they say. How insane is it for them to say "this and this isn't on the course description" and for the prospective student to have to open up Word, highlight where what THEY want on the transcript, and send it back to them. /huff.

If you start your relationship with your school as an adversarial one you will have even more troubles down the road.If they aren't accepting your chemistry, they aren't going to accept your chemistry. As Esme said, pick your battles.

If this saves me from 2 semesters of Chemistry in the end then yes, I picked my battles and this is it. I guess they want push over nurses who don't fight for what they've worked for if it was up to you.

And there is nothing adversarial about what is going on between myself and the school. It's professional, its tactful, respectful and all else. There has just been some miscommunications.

Op

People are just trying to give you friendly advise. The school said no twice to your chem. it sucks. Sorry. See if you can Clep it. Take it on line. Should be an easy A. You pushing the issue will only gain you enemies at the school. Not friends. Nursing school is not where you want to rock the boat.

Yes some people are friendly but some are not. I can feel their negative demeaning tone and I don't like it. They said No to my Chem without even looking at the course description well enough.

If they are saying no then arguing will get you nothing but being labeled as difficult to deal with. I have seen this happen many many times. It doesn't matter if you think you took the right thing. You will have to suck it up and take the chemistry they want. You have gotten a lot of good advice from people that are speaking from experience.Nursing school is different from anything else you have encountered.Arguing will get you nowhere. Wait until you tangle with an instructor....

We aren't trying to be unkind an negative but rather speaking from experience because we have been there.

I don't think any of us have been negative nor demeaning. There are unpleasant realities in life. I hope you win your battle...however there are prices sometimes for being right. I have lived....a lot. I think many were just trying to share experience and life with you.... to save you from possible heartache ans strife..... whether you use that advice is your choice.

Have I fought battles and won...you bet I have! but I have also learned when to take the path less adversarial. Everything has a price each individual has to determine for themselves if the price is worth it.

I have a favourite quote.....

"Let me never fall into the vulgar mistake of dreaming that I am persecuted whenever I am contradicted".......Ralph Waldo Emerson
