Reviews of TAMU and Texas State Round Rock FNP programs

Hello all! I have applied to both programs for fall 2019, and I am having trouble finding real world experience regarding these programs. Any insight would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

I went to TAMU for a semester last year. I don't have much experience with the program because of that, but the instructors were great and the staff supportive while I was there. I did drop however because I wanted to go to a local school to help with finding clinical placement. I've applied to Texas State Round Rock for the fall and waiting to hear back from the college.

I'm a graduate of TAMU's BSN program (class of '10) and halfway through the FNP program (projected class of '21). I love it. The professors are very supportive, easy to contact if needed, and they have been flexible with me regarding a medical/personal LOA I have needed to take. I have several friends who have graduated from the FNP and MSN-Ed programs and all felt like they were very prepared for boards.

TAMU is becoming well respected in this state, although class sizes are small (this is a good thing!) so you don't see too many grads yet.

Thanks for the replies! I was accepted to TAMU so I withdrew my app from TX State. It is encouraging to hear some good feed back, and I did like the professors I met at the interview. I can't wait to start this fall!

They did say this would be a challenge. But I'm willing to drive to the surrounding areas for clinicals. I just heard back from Texas state today via email and they want to interview me in two days which is really short notice, and is also a kind of red flag for me. Do they help find preceptors for students? I have already accepted with TAMU so I will probably turn it down.

Glad to hear. Are you at the B-CS campus? I'm in the Round Rock area so I know finding preceptors here is a challenge according to the faculty, but I am willing to drive to the surrounding areas (Temple, Bastrop, Killeen) if needed.

Hi y'all. My husband was accepted to MidWestern State PHMNP program but is also very interested in Texas State's program due to a slightly shorter length. Was wondering if there was any input regarding people's experience in any NP program at Texas State. We hear most of their graduate programs are rather new.

I am 100% online and actually live in west Texas. I've been to the Bryan campus 3 times since I was admitted: orientation, and twice during my assessment semester, for a week each time.

Finding receptors is challenging anywhere! I moved 2 years ago and lost my network, and have spent the past year lining up preceptors!
