I am starting nursing school in the fall 2005, I am just wondering if it is advisable to purchase an nclex-rn review book now as an additional study aid or just wait till later. At my school it is a required text for junior II students. Come on seniors please I need your candid advice on this.

I don't think it is worth buying first semester. It does not really cover fundamentals. Definately needed 2nd semester. Buy the Saunders book, I could not have made it through without it.

I agree... I worried about pulling through the first semester. NCLEX study books, even though our school just handed them us, I never considered picking up. It wasn't until I graduated that I loaded myself up with Kaplan. You can't lose with Kaplan!

Hi,

IMO, the NCLEX-RN review books probably won't be of much help because of the compound way in which most of the questions are structured. As a beginning student, you will be learning Nursing Fundamentals, which is not the type of material that you will find in an NCLEX review book. However, you will definitely benefit from having a book that teaches how to answer nursing questions. The one I used was Test Success by Nugent. Do a search in the nursing student forum. Some other good books are recommended there.

I say a really good book to buy for studying NCLEX is Saunders Comprehensive Review for NCLEX-RN. Having said that, I don't think you should buy it until you're halfway done with school. Then you will have some knowledge base to be able to answer some of the questions. If you review it every week up and past when you graduate, you'll have that NCLEX exam sealed.

yes i have also that book ( saunders compre. nclex 2005) but havent read that yet .. and i will take nclex exam by next year, im a nurse from philippines (asia) and im planning to work in Usa someday.. can you tell me some details about the nclex exam ___ questions or topics that are involved.... wish you could help me .. thanxs Godbless.. :saint: :D :p :wink2: :blushkiss

I am going to have to disagree with you all. I found Saunders NCLEX LPN to be extremely helpful during the first two semesters of nursing school. All of my tests have been NCLEX format throughout school. Reviewing the CD and answering all the questions on whatever section we were studying helped me immensely on tests.

I am now in my last semester and have been using Saunders NCLEX RN to study from before tests, (in additon to all the other ways to study :rotfl: ). Plus, it gives you the added advantage of being studied up for NCLEX when you are done with school.

There is a forum devoted to the NCLEX exam. You will find all the info you need there. Good Luck!

My advice is to buy one, but buy one that has questions separated by subjects. That way, after covering one subject, let's say maternity, you can attempt to answer the nclex questions to reinforce what you've learnt. If you get a book that lumps everything together, you are going to get overwhelmed with stuff you haven't covered.
