Educated in Canada with 20 years work experience in the US. Working on coming home.
I don't know anybody in the healthcare field in Canada and I'm wondering how it all works. Are all hospitals union? If not, how does one know which one is and which one isn't. Will I be able to get full time work? Most importantly what's the pay like? Where's the best place to look for work in a hospital? Hospital website?
I'm very excited about coming home but yet very nervous about the differences. Just need some help getting an idea what it's going to be like.
Appreciate any comments.

Do you know where exactly you want to work? There is a large difference between provinces. If you can narrow it down I'm sure someone can help :)

Work, salary and job availability will all depend on where you are planning on moving to.I am in Ontario and most hospitals and LTC are unionised.Have you applied for a nursing license yet?

Every hospital and continuing care facility I've worked in in BC and AB have been unionized. The non-union continuing care facilities around here, I wouldn't let my dog work for.
I'm returning to Ontario. Ideally Oakville/Burlington/Hamilton area. I'm a Med/Surg RN.
A hospital will be unionised and full time right off the bat will be unlikely.Seniority rules when it comes to job postings. Yeah hospital websites would be the best bet. They are building a new hospital in Oakville that is scheduled to open in 2015.

Look up the health authority in the area you are returning to and see what jobs are available online for "public" availability. Even if you take a casual position, you are then eligible to apply for internal job postings
Ontario doesn't have health authorities.
Have you applied for your nursing license yet?
Yes, I've submitted the application and since I was originally registered in Ontario I'm hoping this process won't take too long.
