Retrogression=aftermath/how you feelin'??

Published

to all my beloved nurses out there, currently in the US of A waiting for the EB3 to be current, tell me how you all are feeling?

Isnt it frustrating? This is taking a serious toll in my marriage. Life is starting to be difficult..:smokin:

I have found a facility willing to do a sponsorship for me. Now, I'm in dilemma as to if I should accept the offer and file my I140 and start my process hoping, everything work out fine, and I'll get the work permit soon OR not accept the offer, and find not-for profit hospitals and take that route (h1B) as this kind of visa is available all year round, with a BSN RN degree. But then my weak point is, I don't have experience ... Don't know what to do ... Someone please provide your valuable suggestions, informatoin and feedback. I need to make the decision by next week.

Should I take the risk of waiting like everyone who's been effected by retrogression? Or should I consider other options? What would you do in such situation? Please provide your feedback. Thank you so much.

Waiting for replies and valuable informations desperately. Need to make a very imp. decision ASAP. Thank you for reading the post.

It is frustrating and for me I'm not even in the queue yet, after almost a year I haven't even been made eligible to sit NCLEX yet.

I want to go to the US because my family are there, I have accepted the fact that I am sitting in a long queue but now I am determined to improve on my clinical skills during this wait. I have passed the clincal examination so I can do the top to toe assessments the US nurses carry out routinely. I hope to complete my advanced practice and nurse prescibing within the next 12 - 18 months. I know when I (hopefully) do get to the US I am a highly skilled practitioner, I know I will be a staff nurse and not be expected to have an extended qualification but I would hope to progress after I have adapted to the American way.

I am now looking at this wait more positively otherwise it can be distressing just sitting and waiting.

For those wishing to go to the US I would encourage you to consider what skills the overseas nurses lack compared to US nurses and set about addressing this. If you cannot do a formal Uni course, at least ask your manager if you can shadow a Dr or nurse clinicain, even if you have to do it in your own time. You can get a lot of personal satisfaction with your own development and have something to aim for, otherwise it can feel like your whole life is on hold waiting / hoping / praying for a miracle.

I just want to stress that I like the fact that you're not sitting around moping that you can't come to the US to work as an RN. What are you doing? You have plan B and are sticking to it. Life gave you lemons, and you're making lemonaide :yeah:You're setting yourself up so that when you can come to the US, you will be prepared....Kudos to you!

Hello suzanne,

I am F1 student currently working at the hospital as RN during my OPT. My question is there any advantage of filing I 140 ? If retrogression is not resolved by the time my OPT ends, am I able to go back to school as an F1 or not ? I have ADN degree from US. Will I be able to do my BSN after I file I 140 and after my OPT ends ?

Would suggest that you speak with an immigration attorney before doing anything. Most are under the impression that filing the I-140 now will make it as dual intent in terms of immigration and could cause you issues later on.

If only the I-140 is submitted, there is going to be no work permit based on that. The US requires that the I-485 be able to be submitted in order to get the EAD that is needed to work here.

Not all non-profits use the H1-B visa, a very limited number only. The other thing that you need to be aware of is that the H1-B visa was designed for specialists and the government here is evaluating all that were issued at this time as only about 11% meet the actual requirements for it. As a new grad, you do not have experience and are most definitely not a specialist.

There is no decision to be made immediately as there are no visas available now and anything other than the OPT and there is nothing that can be done at this time; sorry to say.
