Retrogression=aftermath/how you feelin'??

to all my beloved nurses out there, currently in the US of A waiting for the EB3 to be current, tell me how you all are feeling?

Isnt it frustrating? This is taking a serious toll in my marriage. Life is starting to be difficult..:smokin:

So frustrating I'm going to Canada instead - took 8 months from start to finish & I land on 24th August & strat my job on 15th Sept - wish I'd done it YEARS ago!!!! Would have saved a lot of heartache & stress (not to mention money!)

It is frustrating and for me I'm not even in the queue yet, after almost a year I haven't even been made eligible to sit NCLEX yet.

I want to go to the US because my family are there, I have accepted the fact that I am sitting in a long queue but now I am determined to improve on my clinical skills during this wait. I have passed the clincal examination so I can do the top to toe assessments the US nurses carry out routinely. I hope to complete my advanced practice and nurse prescibing within the next 12 - 18 months. I know when I (hopefully) do get to the US I am a highly skilled practitioner, I know I will be a staff nurse and not be expected to have an extended qualification but I would hope to progress after I have adapted to the American way.

I am now looking at this wait more positively otherwise it can be distressing just sitting and waiting.

For those wishing to go to the US I would encourage you to consider what skills the overseas nurses lack compared to US nurses and set about addressing this. If you cannot do a formal Uni course, at least ask your manager if you can shadow a Dr or nurse clinicain, even if you have to do it in your own time. You can get a lot of personal satisfaction with your own development and have something to aim for, otherwise it can feel like your whole life is on hold waiting / hoping / praying for a miracle.

Is it not a good idea to find a hospital/facility that is willing to file papers for U then???

You can look for a employer willing to petition you unfortunately with the long wait at the moment we are seeing more and more not accepting foreign nurses.

I have been offerred sponsorship - obviously only on the understanding that I pass NCLEX but in the mean time I must face the possibility of either a long wait or not getting there at all. I have made the mistake in the past of not being proactive with my professional development thinking the I would be in the US within a short period of time - I realise now I could have been more productive.

I see US nurses being critical of overseas nurses and their lack of basisc assessment skills, which may be fair comment - I'm not going to take this personally - I'm going to make damn sure if/when I get to the US I am as clinically skilled as I possibly can be. If I don't get to the US, and I will be upset if this doesn't happen, I will still have made progress in my career.

Hey Liverpool Jane,

It is so great to see that positivity in you. I only wish I could be that way. I see that you are planning to do your ADN, this way even though the visas are not current, you could be qualified to apply for the H1 visa which is far better than none, Right? The irony is that I myself is planning to come to the UK as my family members live there. I am looking over the bridging program. I think I am going to take this seriously before things start to change in the UK as well.

BTW, Liverpool is my fav. English soccer team. Go Reds!!:yeah:

The two year ADN that we have in the US can only be used for the green card, the H1-B requires the BSN at the minimum as well as it is for specialists in their field.

The training in the UK is three years at the minimum for licensure there as an RN as a start.

I have to be positive because otherwise life would be unbearable, I would feel like my life is now hold. Don't get me wrong I can get angry and frustrated at how long everything takes - I mean it is nearly a year ago I requested my nursing transcripts and I still am not able to book a date to sit NCLEX, it seems crazy. I hope if I pass and my petition is served and accepted then I can do no more. I hope the pressure will be off for a while and hope I can concentrate on my development, I hope to get my MSc.

As it happens my brother works for LFC - not one of the footballers unfortunatley but still I am very excited about it.

I meant, Advanced Degree in Nursing

sorrie for the confusion!!

I think it is awesome your brother works for the club. Kind of  that Gerrard will miss the game next week.

Liverpool Jane,

When I was in nursing school, nurses where just allowed to do BP...

that was a task a doc would do.

Your experience as a nurse, you more than you realize.

One classic text book, us old timers had to learn

It is very self explanatory....it will give you some organization to your

knowledge.

Hello suzanne,

I am F1 student currently working at the hospital as RN during my OPT. My question is there any advantage of filing I 140 ? If retrogression is not resolved by the time my OPT ends, am I able to go back to school as an F1 or not ? I have ADN degree from US. Will I be able to do my BSN after I file I 140 and after my OPT ends ?

I have found a facility willing to do a sponsorship for me. Now, I'm in dilemma as to if I should accept the offer and file my I140 and start my process hoping, everything work out fine, and I'll get the work permit soon OR not accept the offer, and find not-for profit hospitals and take that route (h1B) as this kind of visa is available all year round, with a BSN RN degree. But then my weak point is, I don't have experience ... Don't know what to do ... Someone please provide your valuable suggestions, informatoin and feedback. I need to make the decision by next week.

Should I take the risk of waiting like everyone who's been effected by retrogression? Or should I consider other options? What would you do in such situation? Please provide your feedback. Thank you so much.

Waiting for replies and valuable informations desperately. Need to make a very imp. decision ASAP. Thank you for reading the post.
