Retaking Pre-Nursing Courses

Published

I got a C in physio and will probably get a C in anatomy. Can and should I retake these courses? My micro course I have to retake because I have a D. How do schools look at retakes? Obviously, they don't look good. But will it increase my chances? My cumulative GPA is around a 2.50ish. I'll probably do a LVN-RN bridge program because my gpa isn't that great.

Thanks.

Oh, they grade you differentially for each class. At my college, Anatomy and Physio are one class. My college only factors in the passing grades. Also, look to see if your school offers tutoring or try to make acquaintances in the class that are dedicated to hard work and study with them.

I doubt you have a chance of being accepted in a nursing program with C's and D's in those prereqs. So you'll probably need to retake the classes. First you should meet with an advisor in the nursing program first and find out how they view retakes. It would be a bummer to redo the classes if it still won't give you a good chance of being accepted.

Redo! Retake! Relearn! Repeat! Replace!

What school are you trying to attend? Check the requirements and prerequisites.. I know in California they only allow one repeat for science classes.. Good Luck.

The schools out here only allow a total of one retake for any of your science classes.

Look into the specific programs that you want to apply for at each college. Then based on their requirements, decide whether or not it's a good idea to retake one or more of your pre-reqs. Nursing programs are very competitive, but each one is different. Perhaps the programs that go by the point system would be a better option for you rather than a program that puts too much emphasis on GPA or repeats/withdraws etc. Good luck
