retaking NCLEX after 15 years

Ok I did not pass my boards after completing LPN school in 1994 and never retook them...I want too now and the OBN have my transcripts and are awaiting my application to take boards. any advice on where to begin?

Another thing I am a little concerned about....The OBN is telling me all I have to do is send in my application (along with BCI material) and register with Pearson Vue to take the exam....while speaking with other nurses here in the area and telling them what Im doing they all say I will need to take a refresher class or an enrichment course first...Why wouldnt the state of ohio tell me that up front? and I did ask the state....

:nurse: You can go to the Kaplan website. But I would also tell you to check out Hurst website.

but the most reasonible is learningext.com its through the nursing boards website. it has vidoes and refresher lectures and nclex type questions. good Luck!

Due to the gap of time between graduation and taking NCLEX, I strongly suggest that you take a review course. So many things may have changed between now and then that you have to be prepared in a different way. Now, instead of just choosing between 4 answers, they have diagrams, select all that apply and sort of like an unscrambling...they mention a task, and you have to take the answers and place that task in the correct order, or ask for the correct sequence to perform a task, or prioritization of skills based on what is listed.

I suspect that the BON is only instructing you on how to apply for the test...with the assumption that you have or are in the process of studying. Try the Helen Feuer Review http://www.f-n-r.net/ They sell phenomenal audiotapes/CDs and booklets to prepare you for the boards and pharmacology. It may be expensive (but most review courses are) but, it may be worth it. Their audio is so entertaining that you may enjoy listening to them. I would also purchase one of the NCLEX-PN Comprehensive Study Guides (to me Delmar's was the best, because they have a great pharmacology section), get copies of CD ROMs from different sources and answer as many questions as possible. I had friends burn copies of Lippincott, Saunders, Mosby's, and Incredibly Easy.

Best wishes!

Thanks you guys so much for all the helpful info....I have copied and pasted everything you have given me so far and put into a word doc right in the middle of my desktop for referencing...I have also been listening to the CD's I found on this website....http://www.caring4you.net/tests.html

These are pretty good discs for reviewing....
