Retaking Nclex 2 years after graduation?

Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Hey everyone.

I graduated nursing school in 2008 in Michigan. I attempted taking my LPN boards twice, and failed both times. I lost my motivation to continue studying, and never took them again. Now that time has passed I am starting to regret not trying again. Does anyone know the rules as to being out of school for 3 years and wanting to re-test? Do I need to take nursing classes again? How do I apply again? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

hey guys,

i'm in the same boat...i graduated 8-09 and still havent passed nclex after 2 attempts. I have a lot of financial prob so was unable to pay instantly after each failure, do anyone have any suggestions on where to begin after graduating almost 2 yrs ago

you should assess your weak points and then start from there :) you can do it! as long as you got the money to pay for registration THERE IS HOPE! haha

i am too. grad at 09 and still here studying for nclex...i will never give up..coz i know deep inside of me i can do it.. we all just have to be positive... vent out all ur negativities, we can do it...okey?

hi im from new york and planning to take the nclex somtime this year. anybody form new york who can give me suggestion where to review, books to use etc...

Hi Makeit!

I'm not from New York, but I can tell you what helped me pass the NCLEX.

Set yourself a realistic study goal. I know myself & I know that I can only study so many hours a day before words begin to look like ants & I read the same sentence 20 times. I don't do well with cramming, so I made sure that I planned to test at least 6 months away (I graduated a few years back & I needed to review content).

Choose study material that you think will help you. I looked over some books at the book store & read reviews from other people on this website. I choose Kaplan (online) & the Saunders Comprehensive Review guide. I went through all the Kaplan questions in their Q-Bank, so it was nice to have the Saunder's questions too. I found that I was getting familiar with the Kaplan questions & thought I was choosing answers because I remembered the correct answer, not because I remembered the rational.

The day before the test, I did what everyone else recommended & put my study material away & just enjoyed myself. Watched a movie, went out to dinner, worked out at the gym & went to bed early.

Best of Luck to you! :)

For all of us who graduated a while ago, we can do it! PERSERVERANCE is the key to success. Don't give up on SELF, the family of allnurses are rooting for us because they have been in our shoes.:redbeathe

We can and we will do it; take a break, have one of these  and then get back to studying.

I graduated with my BSN in 2007 and now live in MD. I still haven't taken the NCLEX. Life just happens sometimes and we end up taking the longer path to get to our goals. But when you get there you'll have a greater appreciation for what you have accomplished and where you've been. For me it was a tragedy that hit our family in 2007. Our six month old was beaten while at his babysitters and left with a TBI. I've learned more about the dynamics medicine in the past three years then I ever learned in school.

So, to answer your question. 1. Take a deep breath and set a goal. 2. Contact your local BON and apply to sit on the boards. 3. Know you're not alone. 4. When you pass the NCLEX, celebrate BIG.

Best of luck.

I just want to say thank you for posting your story. My child passed away while in nursing school while in her babysitter's care at the time.Despite this I finished school , took the test once failed and just decided not to retake until now. Your post just gives me confirmation that I'm choosing the right time to retake. Thanks again

Does anyone have any good study tips for the LPN Nclex? I will be testing for the third time. I have studied a Kaplan book, did CD's and completed questions in the kaplan book. I think my big problem is second guessing myself. I went up to 205 questions twice and it stated that I was near passing standards. Anyone else feel like this? And I took all of these in the course of one year. Maybe I rushed it Idk but I felt like I was ready until I sat down for my test :(

I graduated 2 yrs ago. I never tested because I ended up hospitalalized a week after I graduated. Long story short, after 30days of mediocre studying I took it today. Unfortunately, I know as failed. Did the PVT and I was charged...gotta find a new study plan...I did Kaplan but didn't use it the way I should have...hope I can still use it...thinking I may need some in class time. I have to pass this thing...I have alot riding on this. Any suggestions
