Nursing Students NCLEX

Published

Hi Guys!

I've been checking this forum for the longest time but I never posted.Thank you for the infos and inspiration btw.I just took NCLEX yesterday and it was brutal.I stopped at 153 and unfortunately no good pop up for me???.I cried, bawled and still sigh when I woke up awhile ago.I have to admit,I got 49's -72's-64's-59's on my KAPLAN tests.I rushed into it all,I've been out of the practice (2009/Philippines),migrated here (2011)graduated year(2006)and raising a very audacious 2y/0 and a stay at home mommy.I'm really doubting myself if I'll still pursue nursing, but It's my first LOVE and I can't see myself with another course❤️

So sorry for the lengthy intro,I guess i needed to vent out too☺️??!Guys,I'll give NCLEX one more shot!I KNOW GOD IS IN CONTROL and one take won't break me.I've lasted too long to give up now!

I took KAPLAN ON DEMAND mainly for the qbanks.I think I need CORE CONCEPTS and Strategies at the same time.I cannot afford KAPLAN anymore but want to venture out to other reviewers/books.I'm seeing HURST,Ati,Saunders on this forum?Which do you think would fit well for me and my needs?Thank you guys in advance and GOD BLESS each and everyone. From one sad but determined momma????

Hurst review is your best bet trust me, check out the website and see where they are offering the class or take the online review it may be a lil pricey but it is worth it. Guarantee

Well I will be retaking my nclex-pn in a few months. For me I will be force on questions for sure. I knew everything on the test but I just didn't know how to apply it to the questions. I don't have any money for any review myself, but I will be doing questions .When I got my results I had a lot of near passing levels, and only one below level. Which I have been studying hard. If someone pays someone to review make sure you get your money worth. I have a few friends whom did the Kaplan paid over $400 and still failed but RN and LPN test. Good luck..

Hi!Thank you for sharing your experience with me.I just checked my quick result Pearsonvue this morning and sadly I Failed.I checked my assessment and I got all near the passing level and 2 below the passing level. It is indeed confusing and frustrating but I believe we'll make it through. The Prioritization,Delegation book by La Charity is helpful to me and the Strategies Book by Kaplan(Borrowed hehe).I'll pray for us.Thank you again for your time

Thank you @sugabrwn1971!I know I wanna try It,but I don't have the budget now.Is there a free trial for the Hurst?

Hello, Thank you for your post :) I will be sitting the NCLEX a 2nd time soon (American, but foreign trained graduated 2005 :-0). I was referred to Sally Lagerquist at nursing review. She helps foreign trained nurses prepare for the NCLEX exam, also repeat test takers. She has a special for 150.00 through April 30th. She can tell you where you should begin based on your situation. Not sure if it is helpful, I just bought it myself yesterday. Commit to study and prayer, give the rest to God. It will be difficult looking after your precious 2 year old and committing to NCLEX, but you can do it with prioritizing ;) I know you can do it :)

Hi @luvscoffee!Thank you for the info and I'm glad(relieved)that I'm not alone. When will you start with Miss Sally? If it's not too much of a hassle will you please update me with how your review with her go?I'm on budget right now☺️.You're right,I offered my pain, frustration and self doubt to God already.I know he's in control of everything.Godbless and goodluck on your exam date!We can do this!!!

I don't believe there is, but still check out the website hurst review if you invest in this you will past. Hold off on taking the exam give yourself a couple months and continue to study those rationales, you will pass and your not a quitter keep ya head up

Hi Mrsmay Don't worry, it took me three attempts to pass the NCLEX-RN! So I can relate to how you must feel right now. I passed in January 2014, but graduated last May. It was the most difficult and stressful journey, but please do not give up!!!! I used ATI & Virtual ATI to prepare for my first NCLEX and failed. In fact, I did not find ATI material useful at all (outdated and vague, in my opinion). I used "Kaplan On Demand" for my second attempt (which was very useful), made it two 265 questions, but still failed. My third and final attempt, I used Saunders Comprehensive Review (6th ed), and that made all the difference! I can't express how much that book saved me. If you haven't bought or rented this book I highly suggest you do so now! The price is relatively cheap and nothing compared to re-taking Kaplan (avoid doing that; you will recognize the Qbank questions). Saunders does an excellent job of tailoring information specifically to NCLEX and had plenty of SATA practice questions. This book was literally my bible.

I did about 50-100 practice questions every night for two months. It takes a lot of dedication and commitment to make this a routine, especially while raising a daughter, but its so important for you to stay consistent with practice questions! Statistics revealed that a high percentage of students failed the NCLEX since the passing rate increased last April. Do not sell yourself short or begin to doubt your knowledge/skills. You have what it takes to be a nurse and you will pass it eventually. The first two times I took the NCLEX, I kept going over my nursing knowledge and re-reading things over and over and over. It really is all about strategies and knowing how to answer "NCLEX questions". Remember, your NCLEX journey is not defeat. Your hard work and efforts will eventually pay off and become a rewarding experience. It just further shows that you are a determined, hard-working, and committed individual. That will be something employers look for when you begin your job hunt ;) Good luck and don't give up!

Many local libraries have Nursing NCLEX review books or can arrange via inter-library loan. Library card is FREE in most communities. Save your money for test taking.
