Resurrection University Fall 2012 Applicants

Published

Hi all,

I am new here and have found the forum to be very informational. I decided to start a thread for Resurrection's fall 2012 applicants. I think it would be good to keep in touch throughout the process, so if you have any questions or comments feel free to express them here. I already submitted my application, transcripts and essay, all I need is to take the TEA's test. I'm taking it in February and am really nervous because I haven't even started studying. Has anyone taken it yet? How was it?

I am also applying to 2 other programs:

Loyola's ABSN program

Truman's Associates in Nursing program

I am debating on applying to UIC's GEP program, DePaul's MENP program and Rush's GEM program.

If anyone else is applying to these, please let me know! Thanks & good luck to all.

What was the negative feedback you heard?I think Resu is going to be great. Haven't started yet but so far it seems very organized and straightforward. Everything has been very clear and communication has been fast, easy and clear. At an accelerated pace there's going to be a degree of self-teaching you'll have to do, but I learn well that way. There are tons of resources available at the school to help you succeed. I feel really good about my choice to go there, but we'll see when fall gets here how I feel then :)You have to remember that everyone's experience will be different, some people won't like their school, and there are loads of whiners in the world today. I imagine if we could break down the "bad" things situation by situation we'd probably see a lot different picture on what is fair/unfair, bad/good, justice/injustice. Just my take. They have the highest Nclex pass rate of any BSN in the area, so they must be doing something right.

Student4rn, You will register for classes at orientation so if you missed anything you can add it then too.

thanks. I am enrolled for NUR3241 already... Thanks for your helping !

Hi, I haven't started in the program yet, but I totally agree with PraytotheUnicorn 100 %. I was in another nursing program before, and if somebody thinks is going to be an extension of their high schools or that teachers are going to babysit them... poor souls. I have studied different things in my life. I studied International trade in my country. I hold a degree in Translation and Interpretation (from Miami Dade College) after coming to this country without speaking a word of English, but Nursing has been the most difficult thing I have ever done and the most rewarding one as well.

Our Teachers will have the responsibility of changing our way of thinking. It's like the transition from the civil life to military life. I am not kidding. There will be lives out there depending on us...They will be our patients.!!! The hardest work has to be done by "us" on our own. Study. Study and Study. Forget weekends, friends, lovers, .... we will have to put our soul and heart on it. As I said before... Hard but rewarding... Think it again if this is what you like... and when you hear that something is hard.... be happy, it means it's good. !!!

PrayToTheUnicorn and STUDENT4RN, thank you for responding. It was very helpful. Most of the negative comments I hear about Resu was about their organization and their instructors. Resu just relocated so I could see why some students are frustrated with their organization and you guys are right about how some people can be whiners lol. I imagine nursing school is hard in general and all nursing schools are probably the same. But I am prepared to work as hard as I have to. I'm still applying to Resu and I'm taking my TEAS on Friday. I applied for the fall semester, I know I'm late but it is still on rolling so I decided to give it a shot. I am PRAYING I get a good score on the TEAS and get accepted to Resu. I hope everything is going to go smoothly and I can finally start nursing school. And congrats on both of your acceptances!

Resu won't move to the new location until December. January 2013 semester will be the first at St. Elizabeth. I have not experienced any disorganization. Like I said before, go take a gander at the City Colleges thread for Fall applicants. People aren't receiving emails with vital information, students are accidentally not notified of their acceptance, and so on.

I have no idea what professors are like until I begin. I had some pretty horrendous ones during my pre-reqs so it's only up from here for me. But speaking of pre-reqs, I have never in my life seen so many whiners and combative attitudes as I did in my science pre-reqs at city colleges. If any of those people move on to nursing or PA programs, you can just picture what they'll be like then too. Everything is unfair, everyone is out to get them, so many excuses as to tardiness, always wanting to see my work or copy my work because I was an A student. It was ridiculous.

Oh ok I thought they already relocated. That's good to know. I also took some of my pre-reqs at a city college, Truman, and it wasn't bad at all. There were some students who thought the classes were hard but I went to Loyola for my undergrad. and compared to Loyola, Truman classes were a lot easier. I'm actually glad I went to Truman for my pre-reqs.

Can I also ask you about the TEAS exam? How were the questions on the exam? I'm studying from the ATI stude guide and I was wondering if the questions on the exam are like the ones they have in the study guide?

Thanks a lot!

I used both the ATI book and mcgraw hill's nursing school entrance exams and mcgraw hill's 5 Teas practice tests. Some had info others didn't which helped with the review as a whole. Everyone's exams are a little different. I found it realtively easy in math, reading and english but the science was my biggest struggle spot. Take a practice test in the book to find your weak areas and concentrate on those.

I was taking biology 201 at Truman at the time I took the TEAS... and 80 % of the science questions was exactly what I was seeing at biology at that time... I got like 86 in science.

I also used ATI study guide... and helped me a lot too... my weakest part was reading since I was out of time. I had 1 minute left and like 10 questions ahead with no answer.... but got 73 average... Truman seems to be much easier as the program is concerned..... but you have also to consider that even though you will be become an RN eventually in both at Resurrection you get a BACHELOR and at City Colleges an Associate...

Thanks for all the advice. I really appreciate it! I was stressing out about the whole application process but reading your comments really gave me a lot of encouragement. I'm taking the TEAS this Friday so I don't have a lot of time left to study but I will try my best. I will keep you guys updated. Hopefully I get accepted! Thanks!

Hi everyone. I got the call from Juan yesterday and got accepted into the evening/weekend program. I contemplated doing the day program but this works best for my family and it's only 4 months longer. Congrats to all and good luck to everyone still applying.
