Resigning from my 1st nursing job. Please help me!

Nurses Professionalism

Hi everyone, I'm in desperate need of some nursing advice. I really want to resign from my first nursing job at a nursing home. I work as a wound nurse and do care plans for half of the facility. But ever since I started this job last year in January my boss has had it out for me. She constantly humiliates me and certain other RNs on a weekly basis and my mom works there as well as an RN. But my mom never talks to her about the things she says to me. She's tries to be supportive as she can but she wants me to still stay there because she helped me get this job when I couldn't find a job months after passing the nclex. I'm very grateful for the job experience and working there but I can't take working with my boss for another month let alone another year and they're not even paying me what the other RNs are getting in the facility. I'm the only RN with an LPN salary. Not that I'm ungrateful but i need to look for a better paying job before my mom retires and moves back to her country. Please me if you can.

Secure another job then quit.

I agree with the PP. I wouldn't quit unless you have another job. Especially since you've been at the job for such a short period of time. Start job hunting, get a job & then quit.

Id def quit after finding another job. With a year experience you should be able to find something. It's not your mom's job to stand up for you. It's your job. Sounds like your boss doesn't value you as an employee between her statements and your low pay. Find a place that does.

What kind of place hires a new grad to be a wound care nurse? I consider that more of an advisory position that requires years of experience. I would definitely look for something else. Are you in California? I've heard they are notorious for not hiring new nurses.

Is the wound care aspect of nursing appealing to you? Perhaps you could undertake further education in this field and attend some conferences to network. That would be an excellent combination in finding a new job if positions are hard to find!

1. experience 2. education 3. a network

you may even get a payrise!

Find out the policy and resign at the appropriate designated limit; you never know if you will find yourself at this facility again with new management.

Cast your net wide, and start looking for new positions NOW.

Best wishes.

I'm trying to find a new position now but it's still pretty hard because a lot of the new positions I've seen online are in the different parts of Nyc I don't live in. I wasn't really expecting my mom to stick up for me, it's just I'm kinda tired of my boss telling my mom all the things that I do to annoy her and my mom has lunch with her so my mom tells me the things she says about me. The things that annoy her about me would be like the way I write my notes or the way I answer her when she's yelling at me because she doesn't want anyone saying anything to her when she's yelling at people. But thank you I'm trying to look for another job now.

That isn't professional for your boss to do that. I would secure another job, put in your notice, and leave on a good note regardless of how the boss acts. That way, you haven't burned any bridges.

That is horrible. Where in NYC do you live? Why dont you apply with the Office for People with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. There are many agencies looking for nurses.

I would find another job before you quit. And I would look for a place where an immediate family member isn't employed.
