  1. Congratulations! I graduated in 2012 with my AAS in Nursing and could not obtain employment in a hospital as a RN. I recently started in an ER in NY with NO acute care experience (I worked as a school nurse and did case management). I have been on the floor for about a month with my preceptor ad have learned soooo much. I recommend watching youtube videos on phelbotomy, learn your lab values and just catch up on nursing interventionsfor now. You can also learn the cardiac meds, if you understand it. I am not ACLS and my director is sending me for the course when i become more familiar with the meds and rhythems. Your employer is aware that you are technically a new nurse and dont have much experience. When you get on the floor you will learn and jump at every opportunity to put a foley in, line and lab the pts and observe.
  2. Ladyfree28 thanks
  3. Is there anything I can study now?
  4. My hospital nursing orientation is 4 days( learning how to use the pumps and protocols)... i am going to shadow a nurse/ be with my preceptor for 2 months and longer of need be. How long is your orientation?
  5. I am starting ED in 3 weeks and I am so happy i read this post. Thank you soooo much...
  6. Hello everyone... I am set to start in the Emergency Department in a community hospital in NY in 1 month. I am very Excited/Anxious and nervous. I do not have any hospital experience. I graduated with my Associates in 2012 and I worked as a School Nurse, Residential Nurse and currently as a Care Manager. I recently graduated with my BSN in October 2015. When I graduated with my BSN, I started applying for positions in Labor and Delivery and ED. I got 2 call backs and was offered both positions. I chose the community hospital because there is so much room to grow and the Nurse Managers reported that the Nurses do everything and learn sooo much. As I sit back and think about my decision... I am wondering what I can do to prepare for orientation and my new position. I feel like I have lost all skills and I am starting to get nervous. I appreciate all tips and suggestions.
  7. Can you ask to start the hospital orientation at a later date?
  8. Hi... personally I would take yhe full time position because I cannot afford to live on a part time salary... how far are you from NY or PA?? You can get licensed in a near by state and commute to a job.
  9. That is horrible. Where in NYC do you live? Why dont you apply with the Office for People with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. There are many agencies looking for nurses.
  10. Update... Mother called and apoligized as per student's social worker. Student was discharged from hospital and apoligized to me for lying to EMS about symptoms.
  11. Thank you Stephaniepreshar
  12. Thank you... as I was typing my post earlier I felt reassured in my decision.
  13. 17 year old male was playing around and hit the back of his head. Upon assessment visualized a mass that is tender to touch, cirular in shape (swollen), and around 3 cm x 3 cm. Vitals stable. No complaint of N/V and no dizzy feeling. 10 min later student complains of feeling dizzy, nauseous, drowsy with unsteady gait. Vitals are stable and WNL. I called EMS and parent contacted d/t what I believe could be a concussion/ traumatic brain injury. I was cursed out because mother stated that it is not that serious because she is 3 hours away by train (school in located in NYC). I personally feel like I made the right call... Kinda need confirmation because the lashing from the mother freaked me out...
  14. Can you please email the form to me also [email protected]
