Have you already been hired for the new job? Your manager can't say anything bad about you, can only say that you work there and that they would or wouldn't rehire you.
If you have already got the job, it doesn't matter anyway. You should turn in a letter of resignation, but if you can do without that two weeks notice, go for it.

Give a two week notice in writing and then call in sick alot. Yep she might try to find a reason to make your life bad those last two weeks. Just be really careful. Try being apoligetic for quitting but don't say anything bad about her or the place. Just say it is for your professional growth. Hopefully you have written reviews from the past that support your skills.

If you feel that paranoid about your license...then just quit--that's what I would do, if you already have a good job--who cares about the two week notice in that situation. There problems will continue with or without you...

Give a letter of resignation, act professional, don't make quitting an emotional issue. You are leaving for a better position, nothing wrong with that. The nursing shortage is human resources problem, not yours. If there has not been an employee problem prior to you quitting, your supervisor can not all of sudden start reporting stuff that never happened. If she/he did, then you would have a solid lawsuit. Just stay professsional, do not burn bridges. Keep everything in writing!! Congrats on your new position!

very sound advise; all the best to you.
After all that worrying about resigning and leaving my job in a lurch, I was just told that I just didn't fit in with the staff I worked with. What kind of reason is that for letting someone go?????? I was doing exceptionally well a few days ago and I had been working so many extra shifts to help out and then all of a sudden this afternoon, I am told to take all my personal belongings and meet my supervisor in the front of the hospital. I was let go because a few nurses (my supervisors pets) said I wasn't being a team player (I was told by my supervisor to keep to myself and work so that others couldn't say I was saying things when I wasn't). One nurse told my EX supervisor that I was freaking out with a new surgery patient today when I was not!!!!!!!!!!!! This EX supervisor took a bunch of hateful, clickish nurses rumors and fired me for hear say! She promised verbally that she would not turn in my license and that they would give me a nuetral reference. But it still upset me to no end that I was let go from a job where I was doing the very best that I could and because I didn't fit in their little click, I was let go. yes I wanted to resign, but you know what, they beat me to it. I just can't believe they couldn't give me a concrete reason for letting me go. Anyways, I am severely depressed right now, crying my eyes out and questioning myself as to if I am really a good person or even a good nurse anymore. I am really beginning to hate nursing anymore. I just don't know if I am going to get over this last termination. I am feeling like I am nothing.
It hurts when we are fired or let go. They probably got wind that you were job hunting or thinking of quitting & decided to beat you to the punch. This experience is not the end all or define you as a person. It is simply a bad experience. Unfortunately in life we all have bad stuff happen from time to time. This is a good time to look at yourself & how you might do things differently next time around. Just try and learn from the experience but don't let these people define your professional existense. Are you a good nurse? If you are a good nurse & know this, then search for a job that supports you in a positive way. Give yourself time to grieve, be good to yourself and then move on from this experience. All will be okay. What did you not like about this job? What is your dream nursing job? Let us know. This will help define what you are looking for.

I am going to be blunt here. I have followed most of your posts this year. You have stated that you have been fired, black balled, reported to the BON, injured on the job, unable to find a job, quit jobs after only a short period, and now this. You have also been financially strapped and about to lose your home and everything you own. I am sensing a pattern here. What is really going on with you Cindy? You are obviously struggling and it is effecting your ability to hold down a job and function as a nurse. Before you start this new job, I would recommend that you seek some sort of counseling? My prayers are with you.
Well I didn't realize that someone was watching my posts on here. But you are right about all that you said. All except the needing counseling part. I have been a psych nurse for 16 years. That is my speciality and that is what I love to do most. I tried to medical/surgical nursing over the past few years to freshen up my skills in the medical aspects. It's evident that I am NOT a medical nurse. I couldn't find a job for many months because there wasn't anything out there at the time. I live in a very small town and there just wasn't anything around here. I did almost lose everything from lack of work and I did go through a deep depression for feeling that I was worthless from not being able to work the hospital jobs. There is nothing wrong with me as a person. I don't do drugs, I don't drink, I am not senile and I am a very easy person to get along with. I belong in psych because that is what I am best at. But again, there is hardly anything around here in psych due to budget cuts. I will say that your response to me hurt my feelings deeply but hey you might as well say what you feel now being as I am already down. I assure you there is nothing wrong with me. I had a very good interview with a correctins facility this week and hope to hear from them on Monday. I am going to take the job if offered. I will excel at this job as I am very experienced in all areas of psych. Just because it appears that I am a total screw up in the medical field doesnt' mean that I totally screwed up as a nurse. Some nurses do well in the hospital setting and others do not. :stone

I would not have guessed that you were a nurse for 16+ yrs. I have been a nurse for approximately 2 yrs and have had only 2 jobs. The bite to employers is they would rather terminate you so that you are severed from your benefits immediately and you can't collet unemployment because you are employable.....I am sorry that you have had to go through the crap, but you had a wonderful opportunity before it happened. So what if an employer says that they wouldn't hire you back...you just have to be honest with the new one and explain your side and what you believe the old employer will say if they call for a reference. If you did your job, there is no reason to have been reported to the BON. Have you actually checked to see if someone was bluffing about reporting you as an empty threat? I would like to correspond wwith you more about this. Don't let these things ruin you or your family.
HURRAY! I hope you are happy after all that has happened. I know it wasn't a fun experience, but I am also sure that you learned from it. Everything happens for a reason. After being treated like you were you must have thought that you were better for it. Who wants to work for someone again if they are going to treat you like that? Cut your losses and when you interview for another job be honest and explain to the interviewer why they might hear that you would not be rehired by a company. It is all about proper perspective. I would like to hear from you....wrote me at my email
