Heya Folks,
I'm trying to find a recent article in a nursing journal (MUST be a nursing journal) about the basics of CBC's. All it needs to explain is the components of a CBC and why they are important.
Seems a very simple task to find such an article, you'd think, but I just spent 2 hours running every search on every database I can think of!
Anyone seen such an article recently or have any suggestions for me?
Thanks!

Does your library at school have a database you can search? Ours does, but for the life of me I can't remember the exact name right now! You might want to ask your library. EBSCO I think is the name of it...
Sorry I can't be of more help...

The article is from 1997 but it IS a nursing journal!!! Here's the citation.....
The complete blood count: physiologic basis and clinical usage.(Hematologic and Autoimmune Disorders)
Date: 12/01/1997; Reading Level: 9.
Publication: Journal of Perinatal & Neonatal Nursing; Author: Dixon, Lynn R. ; Source: MAGAZINES
You can probably get the full text off of CINAHL.
Here's a LOOOOOONG link to an abstract of the article... (I think you might have to pay for it from this site though.)

Hope this helps!!! Good luck!!

What databases have you been searching on? I just ran a search on CINAHL and found two articles from 2003. If you don't have access, just let me know and I'd be happy to email you the abstracts and full info.

Yeah, tried that one, and MedLine and a few others that slip my mind at the moment.

Hey, good try and thanks BUT, sadly, I'd found that one already and the rule for all stuff we use at my school, be it an article or a textbook, is that it be no more than 5 years old.
I really appreciate the effort though! :)

Hmmm, not 100% sure I have access to that DB, looks familiar though. I'll go take a look then get back to ya.
See, this is why I came here! Allnurses.com got me out of 2 jams like this in prereqs. :) Thanks folks!
Hey! WE call it an FBC - Full Blood Count Thanks: I will add that one to the translation thread.

Todd mentions above that he found a couple more recent articles so I won't duplicate the effort.
I would mention, however, that a book I bought and would be lost without is:
Mosby's Manual of Diagnostic and Laboratory Tests

Did you try AJN online? I can't remember the exact link to it right now, but if you type in American Journal of Nursing into a search engine, you should get to it.
I know what you mean about thinking it would be easy to find an article and not being able to. I've been online all day trying to find one about dialysis, renal failure, ESRD, ect...NOTHING!!! Very frustrating!!!
Good luck!
