Hell everyone, my name is Christopher. I'm currently entering my second year of Nursing at a University here in the Philippines. I'm also an Americian Citizen. I was doing some research cause I heard that the Board of Nursing in California - that is the state where I plan on working in because i'm from there - placed some new rules and guidelines regarding Filipino Nursing Graduates and I just have a few questions
Thank you for reading and taking the time to answer my questions. Also, if anyone is wondering, I went to school in the Philippines because I couldn't afford school in America and I also didn't want to take out a student loan - I figured if I did, I might be in debt as an adult relatively quickly.
Hello! Can you guys help me? I recently move here in the US and I want to apply for NCLEX in Vermont. But the problem is... I failed the NLE three times already.. Will they accept me?
If the state of VT requires a copy of your PH nursing license, then you will need it during the application processing. You will also need to provide a copy of your SS#.
I would like to ask, If my son has a chance to take N-Clex here in L.A. , He Graduated 2010 frm Nursing, Take board Exam 2011. Currently working in St. Lukes Medical center, What would be the requirement to qualify to take NCLEX...
If the theory and clinical were taken concurrently then he can apply. But based on the replies here there is a 99% chance his clinical was not concurrently taken. Ca BON will not allow any applicant to sit for the NCLEX if the clinical is not concurrent.

With the strong probability that your son will be denied the ATT in CA (and a few other states as well), due to the concurrency not in compliance with the CA BRN requirements, there's been recent development in which the CA BRN will soon allow the deficient courses to be taken in the Phils.
However, this has not yet been confirmed (by writing or in concrete but rather hearsay from the CA evaluators and a few other posters). The deans in PH are supposedly working on the Approved courses and Approved schools, but the "list" is not out yet.
It remains to be seen how these schools will take on a few thousand "new" students, how they will base the acceptance (need to show the denial letter from the CA BRN, go by graduation date order etc). How these schools will comply with the clinical part, if the proposed hospitals will allow an even larger pool and simply push back the current enrolled students to the back of the line, while those needing to get their ATT in CA move to the front of the line?
The main concern is will this even work in the CA BRN eyes, even though, they tell others in CA to "oh, it's okay, take it in the Phils"......okay sure, just like the CA BRN says "oh, here's a list of CA BRN approved school, find one and come back, no problem"....well, you guys know that story with that idea that the CA BRN sees a 101 CA schools and they all have special programs for all international students, easy-peasy. You'll all get your ATT's immediately!! Phooey....
But to Lags29, maybe wait till the Approved courses/schools does really happen and then your son can enroll in one and be more ready come documentation time. Just know that until someone actually gets the first ATT in CA under this new program, have him keep working in the Phils and he'll also gain more working experience and more marketable.
Okay, so my story is like this:
I graduated in April 2013 in the philippines. I applied for the NCLEX in north carolina and I was able to get accepted. I took the NCLEX and I've been working for two months now at Duke.
I was wondering if any of you guys know anyone who was able to successfully endorse themselves to california even with the non-concurrency issue?
I didn't try california because I feel like I would've been rejected and I didn't want to waste time by waiting for california. I personally think its quite sad that they're doing that when other states aren't as strict about it.
Anyway, If theres a low chance of getting endorsed... if I were to go to graduate school and get an MSN degree... Would that work in california?
Your answers would be very helpful... Thank you!

All US states, not just CA, base RN licensure decisions on the original. basic, "pre-licensure" program you completed in order to originally become eligible for licensure, and only that. If your original basic nursing program doesn't meet the minimum requirements (in CA, or any other state) for RN licensure, nothing you do educationally later on is going to change that (except getting into and completing another basic nursing program). Graduate programs in nursing have nothing to do with basic nursing skills and knowledge, so they don't "count" for basic RN licensure.
YOu will always have issues with states that have a concurrent requirement. Even nurses in the US that go to schools that have concurrency issues are denied.Okay, so my story is like this:I graduated in April 2013 in the philippines. "only those states that have explicit education requirements of concurrent theory and practicum will philippine nurses have licensure issues.excelsior college new york nursing graduates have had same issue recently. see state board licensure requirements here]
These are states having concerns over concurrent theory and practicum, so I would look at other 37 states to obtain license:
Alabama
Arizona
California
Georgia
Illinois
Kansas
Louisiana
Maryland
north Dakota
Oklahoma
Vermont
Virginia
Washington"
