Published

Hello there!I'm a new member I hope any of you can help me.My question is fairly simple but so far I've had a difficult time getting an answer.I would like to know if a local nursing license(from my country of origin-Philippines) is required before i can get an"eligibility to take the nclex in California?".Thanks very much.

Welcome to allnurses! :balloons: I hope you'll find the site useful and interesting.

I am moving your post to the International Nursing forum, which is where we try to keep all questions/discussions related to immigration and licensure/practice in another country. There is much info already posted here about licensure in the US -- please look over the forum, and you can probably find answers to any questions you have.

CA is now requiring a local license for foreign nurses, and we are expecting to see more and more states doing that. Here is an existing thread on this topic:

Again, welcome, and best wishes!

As mentioned in the above post, CA is now requiring the local license before they will grant permission for one to sit for the NCLEX exam. You are not applying for that exam, there is no application for it, but you will be applying for licensure.

Bigger question for you as well as others that are concerned about this ruling that has been around for sometime that is now being enforced is if you do not have a local license, where are you going to get experience? And if one is looking at five years plus before they will have a chance at a green card for the US, what are you going to be doing? You need to be looking at other countries to gain paid working experience and each and every one of them require a local license as well.

Dear Elkpark thank you so much for the fast response I really appreciate it.-Narnia

hi fellow nurses:smokin::smokin: !

i just passed the june 2008 NLE . i am applying for NCLEX in CA i passed all the requirement except for the copy of the local license because PRC is not yet releasing i substitute by giving a copy of my Certification of passing ,rating and an explaning why i dont have a copy of my license... is this enough for me to get a eligibility ? how long would it take to get an eligibility ?????? many thanks !!!

They are asking to see a license, so that means that you will need to provide that for them.

Please take the time to do some reading on this forum about the many reasons that you should not be going thru CA for initial licensure to begin with. License will not be issued and the letter of passing is only valid for three years. If no SSN# in that time, the file is destroyed along with your passing results.

Please just have a good read here for the many more reasons not to use CA. If you decide to do so, also be aware that you are looking at five years plus for a chance at a green card.

is new mexico or vermont gonna give u a license if u pass the nclex even if u dont a SSN ? tnx:confused::confused:

Please do not use text messaging here. If your goal is to work in the US, best to get used to the requirements for charting as well as preparing for the English exams. That helps everyone here.

Both of those states currently issue a license without a SSN#. However, it does not mean that they cannot make changes to this.

There is still a retrogression in place that you are directly affected by. You should be selecting a state first by where you are planning to work.

NM also requires the CES and that must be completed before they will look at your application. And CES will not be issued without an actual local license.

Please take the time to do some reading here, much has been discussed in previous threads for every question that you have asked. It will make it easier on everyone if you take the time to do some reading first.

Thanks for your understanding.
