Requirements for Army nursing

I graduate at the end of April with my BSN, and I would like to commission in the Army. I served previously for 12 years enlisted as an LVN, but got out to go to nursing school. When I got out, I was told that I would have to either get a really good GPA or have 2 year's worth of experience as an RN. I really would like to continue my military career ASAP if possible, but I can't find any current information.

Specializes in EMT, ER, Homehealth, OR.

From what I understand the high GPA and 2 years experience is needed for a direct commission which is the route that you would take. Right now it is very hard to get a direct commission; in FY 14 the Army only took around 10 direct commissions and most where is specialty areas. You need to contact a healthcare recruiter who can give you the latest up to date info. They can be found at goarmy.com. Have you considered the reserves or other services? It would be best to explore all avenues if you what to continue your military service.

Specializes in EMS, ED, Trauma, CEN, CPEN, TCRN.

Apparently there is still no mission for new grad nurses: Medical-Surgical Nurse (66H) | goarmy.com

Your best bet is to contact an AMEDD recruiter:

Good luck!

Not to make you switch branches, but the Navy and AF both take new grads via direct commission. It's not exactly the same role, but it's pretty darn close. Plus you could still get your retirement.
