Request not to be placed at certain clinical site

Hello,

I was a nursing student at a community college recently. While attending school I also worked at a major hospital. I burned some bridges and now moving on to a different school. A school that uses my former employer for clinical sites.

I'm looking for words to use in my request letter to my clinical coordinator, asking her not to place me at that hospital.

She's gonna wonder why. I'm not willing to divulge that.

Any advice (other than take the risk of asking my classmates to switch)?

We have had hospitals refuse clinical placements to specific students. We now have a requirement that students must be able to attend all hospitals on our clinical placement list. If not, they must resolve the problem themselves before clinical placement occurs.

I'm interviewing for the LTACH where I will have my clinical rotation. What should I do?

If your program is okay with you working while having your clinical rotation there, I do not see what the problem is unless there is a policy where you can’t work where you are having clinicals. If there is no problem, do not withdrawal.

Having clinicals at the same place you work is okay. I think you must have misunderstood my comment. We had a student who had been fired from one of the hospitals we use and she was also involved in some legal action involving her care when she was employed there. The objection having her do clinicals at that hospital was because of her performance/actions that resulted in a patient filing legal suit against the hospital.

Our hospitals are always welcoming our students to their facilities and even more so if the student is employed there.

Thank you for the quick reply.

How did it end for her? Was she placed in a different hospital or was she dismissed?

Yeah, that's tough. As others stated placement is hard to secure for some schools. Unless it's an issue such as harassment or violence, not sure if they'd accommodate.

I know of hospitals that will not permit nursing students to do clinicals there if they were former employees who were terminated. If this is the case, you should speak up. However, the school may use *one* hospital for a *particular* course (ie a local Children's Hospital is a great example) and if you can't go there, you may not be able to progress in the program. If you don't qualify to go to the one place used for a particular course, they are not under any obligation to find another place for you. Agency contracts are tricky and require lots of work. That said, be honest with your school, perhaps revealing a little at a time until they know enough to process your clinical placement request.

it worked out for OP but I'm worried about this now for myself...I'm thinking it'll be fine now but still kind of hoping it doesn't come up. not gonna say anything until I have to. haven't gone to my first day of clinicals yet but I've registered for some things within that institution. hopefully all is well
