Reprimand

I was wondering if anyone knows how long a reprimand stays on your lisence in Illinois? I recently had a difficult family member go after me because she was unable to sue the hospital. I am afraid I may get a letter of reprimand on my lisence and am wondering if this will ever come off.

I am not sure how the hospital is setting me up. I was the one who, according to IDPR, who should have known to delegate the accuchecks to the PCT even though the night nurse told me she delegated it to the night PCT and from what I was taught, that information was passed on to the day PCT in their report between the PCTs. I had two very ill pts who required my immediate attention and I failed to follow up with the accuchecks because I was very busy with my 2 very ill pts. Normally the PCTs will alert us to any abnormal vitals or blood sugars and since I was not told anything was wrong I assumed the pt was OK. Little did I know the accuchecks were not being done. It was such a crazy day and I was in the middle of a bad situation. I dont know what I can do. I tried to contact an attorney today but have not heard back yet.

It is unwise to discuss the details of cases that may go into litigation. You have mentioned having your licensed reprimanded. Certainly that was not your idea. Disciplinary action against a license is litigation. Please discuss all details with your attorney. It would be wise to contact a mod to have your posts amended or deleted to remove identifiable information about the case. You can delete the post yourself manually.

It wont go into litigation, I will accept their recommendation. I just want to know if its goingto be on my license forever and from what I hear from other sources it is. I appriciate all of your input and support. Thank you.

You are shooting yourself in the foot by taking this without a challenge. The first time an employer turns you down because of the black mark on your license will tell the tale. Good luck to you.

This is 100% true. Please speak to an attorney. This can have far reaching consequences in the future.

I have read the disciplinary actions on my state's board out of interest. I seem to recall actions going back to the 1970s. That is in my state. I would be surprised to hear that any state licensing board expunges disciplinary actions unless they are found to be without merit.

I am trying to send them information on my true character as a nurse with my attorney's help. I hope they will reconsider and simply issue me a warning provided I agree to take some educational classes. I appriciate your input and hope this issue can reach a more favorable end. Thanks again for your opinions and advice.

please head our previous posters advice to protect your license to practice. you need your own attorney with experience going before the bon, not the hospital attorney representing you on licensure issues. once reprimanded, it stays on your license forever in pa; other states may be different.
