reporting a harassment

I dont want to provide any details of the situation. fear that fellow classmate(s) who may read this forum will be able to identify who I am. but I am being harassed by a fellow nursing student. I want to report but fear that it may interfere with my spot in the program. this person makes me very uncomfortable and is crazy. harasses me only on campus. what should I do? if i report can it backfire? what if the dean doesn't see it as harassment or the person persuades the dean that i'm overreacting. help..

ok, i am still nervous because this person has close friends in the program and i fear things may get worse if i get the school involved. i'll think about it for a few days before i follow everyone's advice.

I say stand up for yourself let this person know it stops today! You don't have to physically defend yourself unless it comes to that, but verbalize it. You have to have a back bone or people will run all over you if you let them. Once the bully see that you wont back down, they will leave you alone. College bullying is so uncalled for they need to get a life and leave you alone.

Also, if this only occurs when you are alone with the harasser, including when you are in a public place but nobody can hear the conversation, there are two things you can do. When something untoward is said, step back a half pace and sa loud enough for others to hear, "Excuse me? Did you just say (direct quote of what s/he said)?" If the answer is no, say, "I am so glad to hear that. You know that would be very offensive."

The other thing you can do is to never, never, never put yourself in a position where there are not witnesses. Do not engage. Ignore.

I agree with the others about going to someone on campus, maybe the counseling center, which I think most campuses have now and would have the resources to help.

REPORT it, the program is hard enough let alone trying to deal with someone who is being aggressive that will only hinder your success. Make sure you mention that! that your concern is that the aggression this person brings with him to the classroom creates a hostile environment for you that's not conducive to learning. Good luck!
