Hey everyone,

It appears I've run across some bad news. I don't want to scare anyone out of their commitment to Remington (seeing how I've already committed myself), but I've just run across some threads that spoke very badly of Remington college as a whole. http://Http://www.ripoffreport.com/reports/0/430/RipOff0430659.htm. That is one link, although most of the disgust with the school seems to be coming from people who have graduated from other programs, such as medical assisting. http://Http://www.guidetohealthcareschools.com/healthcare-school-reviews/remington-college. This thread has a couple of students who are now attending the nursing program and seem to love it. Although the last person on this thread is questionable because of their grammar and spelling. I've come across many scams, and a sure give-a-way is if the scammer has poor grammar and spelling. Why would someone who spells and writes so poorly be allowed in such a school anyways?! I was just about to apply for my private loan today and my bf came across this stuff, so no loan app as of yet.

I don't know you guys...I'm really worried now and don't know what move to make next. I have to try and figure out if there is someone I can call that will give me an unbiased, accurate review. It's just so hard to find that person since the first class is still in session. Here is a quote from one unhappy graduate:

"I can relate to every single one of the claims on this site about Remington College. There is so much about the college that is a joke; I don't even know where to begin. I am embarrassed to say that is where I earned my "degree". Actually you cannot even call it that, mainly it is just a $30,000 piece of paper. I do acknowledge that just because you go to college does not mean you are guaranteed a job, but having a college degree is supposed to be something to help get your foot in the door. I would be better off not having that college degree listed on my resume as most companies laugh at it and say it is not considered a "real degree".

This experience has ruined my ambition to continue my college career at this point. I am 30K in debt with a fake associate's degree and make only 20K a year. I would have to get a second associates degree at another school and then move onto a bachelor's degree". (GuideToHealthCareSchools.com)

Hi bcdgemini

I don't think you have anything to worry about. Honestly, I graduated from a pretty good university and got a degree in Marketing, and it didn't help me land the job of my dreams. Maybe that person got horrible grades, (plus they only have and associates degree, plus with the nursing situation like it is, even people who graduated from good schools with Bachelors are having a hard time finding nursing jobs, most want "experienced" nurses so they don't have to pay for training.

I visited Remington and I spoke with a lot of people there. I saw the classroom of the students. All the teachers come from lots of experience and have great backgrounds.

I think Remington will pump out very experienced students. I had someone help me do research on nursing schools who is very smart about stuff like that and she had a really good feeling about Remington.

I think you should call the school and speak with someone. The school is very legit, their simulation lab classroom is top notch, this school just spent millions on the facility and creating the program, it is not a fly by night sketchy situation. The director is also very experienced.

Good Luck! I am sure you will be very happy with your education there!

ps. Plus make sure that this is not a disguise for your actual feelings of cold feet or anxiety! :) I know I am getting a little nervous, and i was going through a period where I doubted this was what I wanted to do, or was capable of doing after I got accepted. But now all those feelings have filtered out. I am stoked! Good Luck!!!

Thought I would throw in my opinion and some more facts on this one.

Here is some more data that may help you. first of all things on Ripoff.com and other similar sites are not vetted by the web masters...so we really dont know the story. Having said that, the programs that people are complaining about ARE NOT DEGREE programs but certificate programs that require nothing more than a GED with a D average to enter. Remington College is a business that has many programs each operating under its own particular set of credentials depending on the program. I did a great deal of research into this company and even met with the President before applying. What is important for us is that to even start a registered nursing program, you need state approval and provisional accreditation to have the first classes sit for the NCLEX. Remington was approved on both of these fronts. We all know that this program requires at least a BS from an accredited institution with a decent GPA and good recommendations. I would personally not base a decision based on what I read on the sites you forwarded, though it is certainly one data point and interesting to read. Most organizations that provide certificate programs get at least some similar marks from their customers.

Hope this helps. Feel free to call me to discuss, I am always ready to help.

Thanks roses, been doing intense research for the past four hours and my mind is now at ease. I'm sorry for the premature note, but I just had to put my concerns out there. I've called multiple accreditation agencies and they helped me figure out more clearly the difference between Remington's other programs and ours. I also spoke with nearby hospitals and some of our school's personnel (although I was trying to stay away from biased opinions). Here's where a portion of my problem lies: Who does one believe? When I see a positive blog by "anonymous" I think to myself, "Is that a rep from the school? Who is really writing this stuff?" Then when I read a bad review I can't help but wonder if these feelings have infested the whole group that has attended the particular program thus far. I guess we'll never know until we are in and out of the program. It's a risk, but I suppose most things in life are. I just had to do my last bit of research to get my final concerns out of the way. I really think I'm just pumping myself up out loud lol! Thanks for the aid.

They accepted 40 students for the July semester and have a few students on the waiting. I had to defer my application because I am currently finishing up one prereq. Good luck to everyone!

Hey y'all! I will be attending Remington in July. I can't wait to meet everyone! I am from Memphis, TN and I am 24 year old female.

I have started looking for a place to live and it has been somewhat overwhelming because I do not know much about the Orlando area. Can anyone recommend areas or apartments that are safe and close to the school? I have found places in Lake Mary, Sanford, and Heathrow.

Thanks!

Guys

I have great rates for the health insurance you must have for the program. Email me and I will give you quotes. I cant wait to meet everyone. I'm excited, nervous and scared all at the same time. A hope i'm not the only one

Hi All,

My...this thread has really grown. Congradulations all:yeah:,there are very few school in or around Orlando that offer a direct BSN degree. Anxiety is definely expected. :sofahider

I know craigslist can be shady sometimes but I decided to give it a go for a roommate. I'm meeting up with a couple of potential roommates who already have a place. This way is much easier and cheaper rather than paying so much for move-in fees. Most of the time the apartment/house is so well furnished you'll hardly have to buy anything! Definitely trying to save money!

Any comments from you guys that started in July? I am planning to apply for January 2010 so any information would be great!

I am not in this class but was going to be up until 3 days before classes started. Finance trouble. They let me defer my enrollment until january so I'll be right there with you. As far as the school goes it doesn't look like they play around. I went to the orientation. They gave us around 68 chapters to read in the two weeks before class was to begin! Overwhelming! Even with all that I'm sad I couldn't be apart of this cohort because everyone was so nice. Hopefully the jan class will be just as good, I'm sure.

Oh wow, thank you for sharing that info,I'm sorry it didn't work out for you, hopefully it works out in January.

I was just on their website and noticed that they changed tuition from 30k to 36k in just few days? For the school that is not accredited I'm starting to think if it's worth it:eek:

I would still like to hear from people who are in the class since it's very new and there is no NCLEX passing rates yet:(
