hey brooklynborn do u have a car? Is the place at altamonte springs affordable.whats d price range.am still looking for a place am out of state.

Yes, I do have a vehicle. I rent from a private owner. You have to search in local newspapers for people seeking roommates.

having the same issue. am out of state so am basically relying on reviews on the apartments.those around lake mary seem to be too expensive.am definately looking to room with smone cant afford single apartments

I'm moving into Village Lakes in Sanford. It's about 10min to the school & the rent is 499 with water included.. Thats not bad at all for the area & the proximity to the school. You wont have a problem with the lease as long as you show proof of your student loans as income for the year. I also found a place in Altamonte Springs (Remington Place) that has everything included if you're up for the drive/ride. Good luck with finding something :)

Hey to all you new Remington students, and congrats! I've just learned about them tonight (when Googling Keiser reviews), had nver heard of them, then checked this site to see if they're a legitimate school. I have to tell you I was reading this thread like a novel, wanting to find out if you got in! I laughed out loud when I learned you did. Awesome. You will be VERY busy, I know, but I hope you will "keep in touch" with this board and let us know how you are doing. I am applying to the July start (I think that's the next cohort, anyway). Hope to hear how it's going for you in the program and in the community. Best to all of you!

What school are you referring to? I'm curious!

You were so right. I called and talked with Mr. ****** and he was great! No games, just straight forward answers! So much better than the experience I had before! = ) I am not sure if I am going to be able to do Keiser or not, but at least I have some options it feels like! I called a school today to inquire about an LPN program, and I must just have terrible luck because I got a bad rep there as well. This lady refused to tell me anything about the program unless I came there to talk with her! I don't really want to do LPN, but I was just curious how long the program was! I couldn't even get her to answer that! Also, FYI if you don't get into Keiser, there is a school in south FL that has most of the lecture classes online and you go there for clinicals on the weekend and every once and a while for lab. It starts in March and there isn't a waiting list. It takes 18 months though! :uhoh3: But it would be better than nothing I suppose. If you are interested I can send you contact info! Hopefully we will both get something figured out!!:D

Btw-> I worked at a school before in admissions and the reason some schools don't answer your questions over the phone is because they know your chance of enrolling lowers if they give u all the info without selling the value of their education (sales tactic). Things may have changed now due to all those lawsuits and compliance issues.

Lake Mary is a pretty dry place to live. I'd reccomend living around downtown orlando. the clinical sites are close by there anyways

Dear RemingtonStudent: How do you feel you and the other students are treated/addressed? As competent adults, or as children? I ask because while re-taking my aged-out science courses last year at a community college, I was amazed and a little annoyed by the disrespectful way many instructors and administrators communicated with students. Granted, some students do act like children, but it is insulting when you are a "seasoned" (oldish) and polite/responsible and articulate student who is paying big $$. Thank you for any insights you may have into your experience at Remington so far.

Hi all! This is my first post, and I just wanted to give prospective students an idea of my personal experience of the admissions process and also recommend housing to the upcoming Jan. 2011 class. I know I was apprehensive of this school at first, but I'm happy so far with the result.

First of all, I applied back in August 2010 for the January 2011 class. Just to give you background, I have a BA in Advertising and a cumulative GPA of 3.0. This should be encouraging for those of you who probably did less than perfect in your previous college careers. I did, however, become a CNA a few years after I graduated, working in a mental health hospital and also on the med-surg floor of a regional hospital. I think this is why I got in. I showed the admissions committee that I was serious about my passion for nursing. At this point, I had traded in 2.5 years worth of experience that could have probably landed me a promotion or 2 in my last position (completely not health related) for half the salary working as a CNA. I also gained experience as a CNA working abroad which is wicked cool, looks good on your application, and I recommend to anyone. My phone interview (cause I was out-of-state at the time) was in mid-October. I'm not sure if the admissions were on the fence about me or not, but I felt as though I needed to prove myself because of my overall GPA. I was nervous and stumbled over words, but I made sure I told my interviewer that I would be a great nurse someday and that I was not the same student I was many years ago. I found out 2 months later I got in =]

My impression thus far has been a good one. Professors and faculty seem very nice. School is small and new. They have been thorough as to what they expect and have allowed us the opportunity to ask questions. And I think the best part is that the cost is all inclusive of not just tutition but also the cost of books, lab fees, , and Nursing Student Association. I feel like I know exactly what I'm getting myself into, and that there will be little if no surprises.

As for current (upcoming) students, I moved here 2 weeks ago from out of state. I actually went through a real estate agent because I'm not too big a fan of apartment complexes. I ended up with a 2/2.5 townhouse for $850/mo with good amentities. She was phenomenal at helping us get a place from out of state so I can only imagine how she would do for someone already in state. You can choose apartment complexes or private.

There's also a facebook page setup for both current and prospective students to meet each other and share experiences. This is in no way authorized by the school, just a way for students to meet each other.

Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions! Good luck to everyone!

Hello! Just thought I would share my experience even though I haven't been fully thrown into it yet. This is only day 2 of orientation for me, but I have never been treated like a dirty college kid by anyone from Remington. I know what you mean though about professors and staff from other schools treating you as though you were a teenager or an idiot...not to stay that the two are one within the same =]. I think the thing you have to remember is that a lot of the admin staff at those other schools probably deal mostly with very young students who are going to college for the first time and have no idea what they are doing. I also think that because of the admissions requirements to get into RCON, faculty and staff appear to believe that most people are perhaps a little older and mature. They have been very helpful and nice to me up to this point, but, like I said, I have only had 2 days of orientation so far. Hope that helps!

Thank you for the valuable insight, Flimfly! I'm grateful for the real estate agent lead, too. I want to ask you now how you went about working as a CNA abroad; Would love a lead from you on that, too, but I can't figure out how to send you a personal message. If you don't mind, could you let me know who to contact when you have a chance? I know this board (understandably) frowns upon any info that could be considered advertising. Thanks!! CONGRATS on your victory of getting accepted and making the move and I wish you continued success!!:ancong!:

Thanks! :D I am quite fortunate that I have family abroad which made it extremely easy for me to get a visa to move before I found a job as a CNA. I would recommend contacting your local American Red Cross about opportunities abroad they may have. You could also look into the Peace Corps. If you wanted to wait a few years before going into nursing school, you could join the military and work as a medic which is the equivalent of a CNA. If you're currently picking up pre-reqs at school, I would ask to speak to who ever is in charge of study abroad opportunities. They may be able to give you some great contacts or point you in the right direction. Other than that, you may have to look into private home care who would be willing to sponsor you to work abroad.

Just remember that when you become a RN, you will have more and better opportunities to work abroad if that is something you're really interested in. Best of luck! :nurse:
