hiya. i'm a UK nurse working here in London and i'm basically awaiting my "eligibility" status from CARNA in Alberta. my question might not be related to nursing itself. i've heard in Canada that the voltage on a household is 110v compared to 220-24-v in the UK. as regards mobile phones or laptops (or any gadget that i will need) would you advice me buying one over here or in Canada?
i'm going to Edmonton, Alberta. mobile phone & broadband companies recommendations please????Gino
I'd go with Shaw for land line, cable TV and high-speed Internet (we've been with them for about 10 years and have had few problems... AND they don't make you sign a contract). As for mobile phone, it really depends on what you want to do with your phone. Mobile service in Canada is quite expensive and the packages are complex. You might want to check out Fido and Koodo; I'd stay away from Rogers. Every time you make any kind of change to your package, your contract starts over. So if you had a three year contract and were in year three with just a basic phone plan and added a text package, you'd now be in year one again.
hi all!
regarding my application ALL my papars are now with the CARNA and am waiting for my eligibility status.
ive just bought the Nokia 5310 and the 6300 which according to Nokia will work in North America so that's solved now. as you guys recommended i will try and avoid Rogers and maybe concentrate on Koodo, Virgin or Shaw.
now, as regards PC and surfing the net....
i'm compelled to the idea of NOT buying a laptop here in the UK anymore and instead i'd be buying one in Canada for practicality reason. also, i wanna buy an iPod Touch so atleast thru wi-fi i can surf the net and do basic emails.
any comments?

Not sure about cell phone but they are cheap enough if yours doesn't work. Laptop you shouldn't have any problems we bought ours from the UK and have had no problems at all just make sure it is set up for wireless when you buy
