  1. my main workplace will be the University Of Alberta so i will be staying in a flat near or around the area. any comments on Alberta? and about the transport system being "bad" would having a car be a lot better? i need to sit in an exam in order to get a license am i right?
  2. so, it would depend on which state in Aus i'm going? and is there an exam i need to take like the CRNE in canada or nclex in the states?
  3. i do not know why i have to sit this whole SEC exam thing but my only guess is that probabbly what they found on my CV and app forms is a "lack of number of hours" it dealing with mental health patients. that's all i can gather. i was told by GH that all my forms are in the Canada High Commision and that i will hear from them in 4-6 weeks. i know i'm almost there and i'm just biting my tounge and trying to be patient. so far so good and i havn't heard of any complaints about me or any issues, etc. so ill just keep my practice safe i suppose. my parents kept asking me why Canada and not the U.S. or Australia. i always tell them that an opportunity came to me and not because "i'm not happy with my ward". in a way yes i am not happy but i want to try and look on the bigger picture about my future and my wife. (were getting married this march:) are you in Canada now Cocoy2go? how are you? and how is it there?
  4. Hi Cocoy2Go the other option was basically to go to Canada and then take the exam there right there which i think for me is not practical at the moment. i think those 2 options was given to me 'cause maybe i had little experience with mental health patients. today i had posted back the signed contract and the United Nurses of Alberta factsheet back to my agency. also along with my Police certificate form too. i have yet to hear from them as to what is my next move. i know it's a big move but because on my part i am just fed up with working on my ward so i'm doing this step-by-step and as smooth as possible. i have started to sell my stuff here (from DVD's to my desktop PC to my freeview box, etc.) and i plan to buy atleast 1 more coat or thick jacket during the sales and maybe a pair of shoes/trainers. did you have to wait for 3 months before you got your work permit?
  5. To RGN1 & Cocoy 2Go, i am pestering them right now. and they have been helpful so far. when i received my eligbility letter from CARNA i was "given" two options before i can start work there. and the "best" option i saw was to take this SEC exam on mental health. what is this all about? is that exam hard? did CARNA decided on those options basing on their assessment of my documents? nb. i've started my police clearance thing. would the LMO be the agency's job to follow-up?
  6. i have got something from Edmonton saying that i have a job waiting bit what does an LMO looks like? Geneva Helath emailed me stuff like the one that i need to submit to the Canadian Embassy and some checklist. i was told to sumbit those forms to GH first so they can check it then i will be submitting this police form as well today....
  7. Hi Cocoy, how are you doin'? well, as for me i just got my letter saying that i'm eligible to work in Canada. there are also some forms along with it. but, my questions is: 1. what are those forms for? 2. what is my next logical step to do?
  8. Well Done. Conratulations! the long is finally over for you. we should get in touch. i will need advice from you specially places to rent flat, where to buy things, etc.
  9. i'd like to be patient but the ward situation isn't helping at all. again, i've entertained the idea of moving to another hospital but i scrapped that. i'm still sticking to my original plan which is resigning (by 31 Dec if the eligibilty status gets through this october) then working as a permanent bank nurse after atleast i got my eligibility status but you sugested to wait till i get my work permit. i can get a reference to one of the Band-6 and my relationship with my manager is "fragile" and "uneasy"....
  10. i think it's a good 3 weeks now that CARNA has verified that they ALL have my papers. was told here to start applying that police certificate form (as i understand it takes 10 days approx.) and start filling in that all important work permit application form. now, i know you gonna kick me in the butt for this but i am planning to resign this october. i am just fed up with nurses covering their backs, nurses not pulling their weight and patients not appreciative of your work. i plan to work "casual" read: be a permanent bank nurse so i can work anytime and anywhere i want. will you advice me to atleast wait till i get my eligibility status before i resign? coz i had enuf of working on the wards now. and i'm sure i can get bank shift now and again coz there are loads of shift available in my trust. please advice....
  11. so, would you advice me or agree with me if i say i would resign even before i start applying for that work permit or atleast wait till i get my eligibility status?
  12. i know you might kick me in the butt for this but....i plan to resign by october. and instead i plan to be a permanent bank nurse so i can work anywhere and anytime i want. the workload on the ward is getting enormous and i am fed up. you work hard and nobody appreciate what you are doin...
  13. Hi Cocoy. how's your work permit? any news? as for me ALL of my papers are now with CARNA and i'm just waiting for my eligibility status. GH sent me forms (police form, embassy form, etc.) and was told to start with them. if i get my eligibility status i'll have to turn up a gear all the things i need to "dispose of" like my TV, PC, etc. and will start inquiring on the best place to rent a flat. but i think GH will be providing me a "physical acccomodation" and not just money to rent for a month or so then i will be ;eft to find a place on my own....
  14. hi all! regarding my application ALL my papars are now with the CARNA and am waiting for my eligibility status. ive just bought the Nokia 5310 and the 6300 which according to Nokia will work in North America so that's solved now. as you guys recommended i will try and avoid Rogers and maybe concentrate on Koodo, Virgin or Shaw. now, as regards PC and surfing the net.... i'm compelled to the idea of NOT buying a laptop here in the UK anymore and instead i'd be buying one in Canada for practicality reason. also, i wanna buy an iPod Touch so atleast thru wi-fi i can surf the net and do basic emails. any comments?
  15. i'm going to Edmonton, Alberta. mobile phone & broadband companies recommendations please???? Gino
