Relocating to Naples area as new RN grad

Published

We are relocating to the Naples area soon from WA state and I will be a looking for a RN job. Can anyone from this area tell me the average wages? Where to work and not work? I'm familiar with the area.

Also, if anyone has any information on NCH, I would be interested in reading about it. We will be living in Marco Is.

Thanks!

I'm just getting ready to start my second seasonal contract with Physician's Regional in Naples. I was hired by them last year as a new grad. I don't know much about NCH, but if you are going to live on Marco Island, Physician's Regional is closer. Also seasonal employees are paid considerably better, however, no benefits. Physicians Regional pays seasonals RNs $35/hour plus differential. If you took a full-time position, you would probably be in the low to mid 20s. Hope that helps!

Thank you, that does help. I wasnt sure how the seasonal job would work as a new grad, but it sounds like you liked it. I'll definitely consider them, Thanks!

I am also a new RN in Naples. NCH is currently not hiring new grads. They do have a GN program but it is not offered right now I am not sure about Phy Regional. I do know a nurse who just left because she was caring for 22 patients( only RN with LPN's) during night shift. She had to take care of all her patients and then do all the meds LPN's can't do. Just too much. Lee Memorial( Ft Myers) does have new grad programs but extremely hard to get a job. They have 150-200 applicants for 12 spots! It is a tough are to start as a new RN. If they don't get enough seasonal nurses to fill spots all hospitals may open doors for new grads, but now its depressing!!! Sorry to give bad news! I wish you luck and happiness with your move!

I am new RN. I recently relocated to Southwest Florida and have been looking at Lee, Naples, Sarasota, etc.. I actually got an interview next week at naples and I was wondering how your experiences have been. Also, how did the interview/hiring process go? How soon after the interview were you offered a position and how long did you have to accept the offer? Any information would greatly appreciated :)

I was just hired by Lee Memorial as a new grad inturn. The pay is low 20's. I had 2 screening interviews( one HR person , one with a Nurse Educator) before I had the chance to interview with the Nurse Manager. The HR process took a total of three weeks before I got an offer. I am not sure about Naples! Good Luck!

That's incredible...I thought WA state was bad and it would not be to hard to find a job in FL.

Why would you think that? Please review the ample threads on FL nursing. While FL has many elderly, many residents are either Medicare or medicaid, which has been cut to the bone. Rick Scott, the current governor, made his bones in the forprofit hospital arena, and ran Columbia HCA, during a period in which it was charged/found guilty of one of the largest Medicare frauds in history and he is on the record as taking the fifth during the court case multiple times. His legacy, Columbia/HCA is notorious for poor pay, bad ratios for nurses. They used to own several hospitals down that way.The hospitals are understaffed but that is by design, and there are plenty of unemployed nurses in the state and many schools of nursing.Add in, work in FL is seasonal. You work your tuchis off in the busy season, just to get floated/low censused repeatedly in the offseason.

Though, I have to say, Marco Island is gorgeous.

Has anyone applied lately as a new graduate in the Fort Myers, Naples area? I have applied to NCH and Physician Regionals but they don't seem to be hiring new nurses. Any recommendations?
