Relocating to Dallas

Hi all!

I am happy to report that I accepted an RN position in Dallas, TX. However, I am not from the area and would welcome any info you can give on the area. I will be renting an apartment and have no car, so will have to use DART. Can you tell me about the better affordable neighborhoods to rent in?

Thanks in advance.:D

Congrats! Which facility will you be working for?

"Dallas" covers a pretty big area. Knowing which facility you will be going to would help. DART does a pretty good job but there are some areas I wouldn't want to be out standing around waiting for the bus unless I had a few body guards.

I am new to Dallas also...well I moved here from Las Vegas in April because of the economy and better education for my 12 yr old. Well it took 3 months to get my permanent RN license from the BON here but now that is finally all said and done with I still haven't been able to get the job I want. I wish I could say that I will take anything but I wont, not as FT employment..I will take anything as a PRN job...with that being said I applied to JPS because that is one of the choice places I am willing to work FT at...and I live in East Plano...I know its a ride but I have to be happy with my job and Plano Presby and the other THR hospitals out this way are jobs I would only work PRN needless to say that haven't even called me with all the apps I have put in...is that ride to JPS ridiculous or what???let me know...I have never been there before!!!:lol2:

If you live in Plano, it will take 60 minutes to drive to JPS in downtown Fort Worth without any traffic. If you factor in the traffic, you might have a 90 minute drive on your hands.

The job market is competitive and tight in the DFW area due to the sluggish economy, and beggars cannot be choosers when it comes to nursing positions. Unless you have a large savings, a spouse who earns good money, or independent wealth, I would be trying to get into any hospital at this point in time.

Just had phone interview with JPS..went suprising well...hopefull I get a call from a manager to have an in person interview..the rate offered was $34/hr not including the $3.75/hr eve/nite diff or $6/hr weekend diff...I also have an interview in-person at Methodist Dallas today!!! Which is the best one to you??..I don't know much about either..as I said I am new to the area...:D...$34/hr is more than my base was in Las Vegas...I can live with that considering the cost of living is lower than it was in Vegas..not by much but it is noticeable..

Congrats to you! That is fantastic news! I hear good things about both, but Parkland and Methodist are my preferences. In reality, I know I have to keep my options open, so I know I can't be too picky! I tried Methodist, but all they had was Critical Care and Nephrology, I didn't see a Med/Surg Internship otherwise I would have jumped and applied!

I hope it all works out for you!
