How do you not know if your unit uses the Bio patch...

@CCRN86... Yes... I had 10 yrs exp when I got hired on at Methodist... Yes I am still there... I lovey job but we have lost a lot of nurses and are short staffed but looks like manger is working on that..Invox me ur name so I can introduce myself.... Are u experiences??

I think the pt is still at risk for swelling but with the crani it might not cause extreme neuro changes. And I don't think that the fluids were too much but then again it depends on what his lactic acid is, base deficit and UOP. Mannitol shouldn't be given unless his ICP's are elevated. As far as his future...no one knows but I have seen pt with GCS 3, crani to getting their flap back months later...there is hope

I am a current student at GCU for their online RN-BSN prgram and had no problem getting in. It is a very good program I can say so far as I have 3 classes left. It takes a lot of self-discipline but I really think it is working for what I set out to do. I am able to work FT while getting my BSN with no mandatory classroom or clinical times. I'm not sure about the stats but I do know that it was fairly easy to get in regardless of GPA

Being a Trauma ICU nurse we started off usually with fentanyl and propofol for the obvious reasons of its easier to do a propofol sedation to assess neuro status and prepare for extubation. On the other hand, if its been longer than a week or two the patients goes on Ativan or Versed. If its Propofol I dont really mind going up to the max/hr just because of its short half life. But for Ativan and Versed I go with a lower hourly rate and bolus as needed unless they just have no obvious sedation at a certain rate then yes I go up on the hourly rate. It is so hard to get patients to wake fully after 5 days of Ativan at 5-8 mg/hr.. We used a Ramsey scale and most orders say titrate to Ramsey 2-3, which means opens eyes to verbal commands and otherwise calm...Yeah right...most pts on sedation are 3-4 opens eys to verbal commands or light touch. Bolusing Propofol is illegal so I would be careful as an RN doing that, only the anethesiologist or MD can legally do that...but I know we do it all the time for many legitimate reasons.

Thats funny because my contract was at a northern CA Kaiser...the Per Diem nurses there were making like $75/hr while I was making $20..and I had to float if not every day, every other day. I heard that they might try and withdraw money from my account so I might change it next week. If some people are happy traveling then Kudos to them and they shouldn't worry about fines and dues, but for us who ended up in a travel nightmare, we should be able to do what it takes to make self happy...well i'm gonna always make myself happy before I work somewhere that im miserable, underpaid and overworked.

Well most of us sign the contract with good intention and I don't know about you, but I value my license and integrity and I am not going to work anywhere I feel like my license is in jeopardy or I am being treated like crap by being floated 1-2 times a shift and being paid $40 less than the staff nurses. And one is unaware of these conditions when the contract was signed. And if YOU honor your contract as signed then don't worry about the fines cause you wont have to pay them. I'm not into settling for bad situations and so if I feel like that's what my contract put me in then by all means necessary I'm getting out of it. So, Sorry if it affects you in someway, but if you like your contract and complete it, then it shouldn't affect you!!

Well lucky you to get an interview...I had been trying for 4 months to get a job there as I knew that was my ideal place to work and I have Trauma and county hospital experience. Well, I never got that interview so I give up on Parkland..

While I am new to Texas during my job search I say many new grad opportunities and internships at all of the big name hopsitals in the DFW area. I just got hired at Methodist and they had 4 interns go to my unit alone and in orientation they also spoke on the prospected shortage in the next few years...so if you have a few years to go...just hang in there..thejobs are there for new grads..

I got my last paycheck because I called in sick till payday then I sent my recruiter an email and like you said kristinetdb...I changed my numbers and have been very happy since. I have me a FT job in Dallas and I am making twice the money I was making with the travel agency...it was a rip off...I was making like 20 bucks/hr because they were paying for my housing...it just wan't worth it to me...Plus I did have a true emergency at home, so once I came to take care of it..I decided not to go back to misery...I haven't heard not one word from them since I sent them the email explaining that I would not be returning...

I am from Los Angeles,Ca and I would never move back to Cali...the economy is terrible there and the cost of living is outrageous. I like it here so far..the culture is fine where I am and at least there is culture here..My son can learn alot here and the education system where we live (plano) beats any parts of Los Angeles...hands down

I have not put it on my resume..I did tell my future employer about it and let them know that I had a family emergency and I had to opt out of the contract...i got another job!!! FT at home..traveling doesn't work for me!!

I just quit my contract with 7 weeks left on it...I was miserable and my son was at home not with me on assignment and he was starting to rebel agaist his uncle...who he was at home with...I was getting floated everyday and sometimes twice a day...I just hated it and I couldn't take it anymore...so we'll see what the say but it doesn't matter...I'm not going back!!

I agree with the writer who said "don't apologize". The mistake you made was minor in the fact that it didn't cause the patient harm and I agree that RT's should check orders every 2 hours on their patients and every hospital I have ever worked in at least in the ICU..that was the practice. But I have let a doctor or 2 know in my day that they will not talk to me like that...that is a bad habit of intensivist with their G** like complex to just treat you like crap...well I demand my respect or we don't have to talk...I remember one doctor was so rude to nurses that every time I had to page her I had the charge nurse handle it and my explanation was...this doctor will make me lose my job if she continues to be so rude over the phone..I even told my manager how I refused to deal with her over the phone..in person was a different story. Being a new grad is tough and learning how to deal with the physicians is another realm in itself. Don't apologize and if the physician does't bring it up then let it go...if he continues to hang up on you or treat you like crap in person ...report it...you should not have to be uncomfortable in your working environment...jus my

I moved to Texas in April and was having some frustration waiting for my license to get endorsed because I had a misdemeanor conviction in Los Angeles in 1996...Well now that its resolved and I finally got my license and just landed a FT gig on Friday the 13th(), I would say that my frustrations have gone away. But as far as regretting the move here...I love it...I love my neighborhood, the economy here is great and there are lots of opportunities here....my family loves it as well...we moved from Las Vegas so this life is much more humble...jus my
