Religion in the Room

Nurses Spirituality

Updated:   Published

I'm a NS, and I've been wondering what role religion does or can play out in patient care.

Let me say first, that while I'm personally a big Jesus fan I DO NOT believe in pushing my beliefs on others. But my question is, if a patient were to ever ask their nurse to pray with them, for them, etc is this generally allowed?

Or is it mostly a frowned upon practice, or maybe more of a facility based decision?

Really interested in your thoughts on this.

Except by my pagan co-worker.

Who may tell you that Christianity is a pagan religion. :twocents:

No one asked for THAT. ^ I don't think I've ever seen that much bigotry---let alone that many insults---against Catholic beliefs in a single sentence before.

It's not what I believe: I just answered the question about why some people believe Catholicism is not Christian.

My grandma was raised by people who believed those things. They also believe a lot that she figured out by age 8 made no sense.

So as a young adult the went to classes to learn the true teachings of the church. She officially became a convert to the Roman Catholic faith just before she turned 19 in 1915.
