Rejection Galore

Nursing Students ADN/BSN

Hi nurses,

Wow, I never received this amount of rejection emails in my life. MY family and friends keep telling me to be optimistic but it's extremely hard to. Even when I applied, New York Presbytarian career website has an online screening tool so it will only submit your resume if you are qualified. If you are not, it won't be submitted. I applied all over; HHC hospitals, LIJ locations, Mount Sinai, rehab centers, called clinics and nursing homes/SNF. Fax my resume all over the place. Was told to keep applying online for other positions since I wasn't qualified for the nursing ones.

I had my doubts about LinkedIN and Facebook but gave that a try for a while even before I had got my license. I even start looking out the state but was willing to use that as last resort since my family doesn't think we would make it and we would have to get a babysitter for my son and they think I should keep trying in NYC. I know its been only two to three months but i have a child to take care of and my loan money is running out. All my family have helped with me so much but I have exhausted every financial assistance.

I wasn't too sure if I should volunteer again. I volunteered for a hospital in the UES and it was a cool experience but it didn't get anymore. I stayed there for six months. They told me I wouldn't be able to work there until I got my BSN.

I have no connections to anyone in the healthcare environment. I have a question. I have my ADN. Is it just better to sacrifice not working as a nurse for now, find a regular job and get my BSN in the meantime? I will keep looking for nursing jobs but I really don't know what to do at this point. I can't even afford to get ACLS, PALS and IV therapy certification because I need to pay bills and pay rent. I may become an old new grad with no current experience. Any suggestions or thoughts?

Thanks.

kc, these classes do cost for the facility. So, they probably not only see someone who furthers their education but who can save them money because they already had the class. Yes, ACLS/PALS is more RRT material but good for everyone; EKG class is phenomenal to have because I will tell you, when I was a tech, there was a nurse that did not want to take the EKG class because she was not good at it or didn't want to because there's a test at the end. The option for her was quit or move to another floor that didn't require it. She quit. So, this isn't one of those 'it's just a class' things, it can be complex. That's what makes them so marketable.

I wanted to take an EKG class as well but when I inquired, it was $300. I was disappointed, maybe one day.

Stupid auto correct. Tons of different types of pts. Not sure how it got that. THE prison I worked at there was at least three of us. Two of us in the infirmary and one in the clinic. CLINic more er type pts, infirmary not so much.

CP1983,

I met with the nurse recruiter in HR at 930 then with the nurse manager on the floor where I would be working. I didnt leave until 1220-1230. I feel like the only reason I was able to land that interview was because I had done my senior prac there. I felt like the interview went really well, and I just knew I would be starting the following week. I was informed of pay, benefits, the color of scrubs to order, what days of the month orientation would be, the orientation process, and etc. I was thinking in my head, "Wow, I have received a lot of information about this job. Sounds really promising." I was told in 1 week they would be in contact about the next process. Well HR never contacted my references because I asked my references just about everyday had someone reached them. I dont know what happened or what went wrong. I have two friends that completed nursing school with me that work on this same floor, and they informed me that the nurse manager hired two guys but the are still in need of 2 more night RN. My application still says pending on the career dashboard. Pending isnt good enough, I need a job offer. My family is barely getting by on my husband's income.

Try to email her to remind her of your interest in the position. Be proactive and aggressive. I landed a job that way. Hope you sent a thank you for the interview. Keeps your name in front of her And remind her of you'd qualifications for the position. Just a thought in tight market.

Perhaps you can try doing work-at-home jobs. Working as a medical transcriptionist or in telehealth can probably help you financially while you are complete your BSN degree or while you wait for a job that you really want.
