Registering for CRNE

Published

How does one register to take the CRNE? I have a registration application in for Ontario but can only find a list of dates for CRNE on the CNO website. Do you have to wait for some kind of authorization to test from the board of nursing before you register or can you go ahead and do it on your own?

Thank you!

You can sit the exam in another province to the one you registered in but need to get permission.

just wondering. I've read in a lot of forums how CNO usually requires filipino nurses further education before they are eligible to take CRNE. if nurselen would take the exam in Nova Scotia, pass the exam and get registered as RN, if she decides to move and have a reassessment with CNO one day, would there still be a possibility that she would be required to do further studies? she already passed the CRNE and from what I read, once you pass the exam you don't have to retake it when you move to another province (regardless where you took it).

just want to clarify.

thank you very much.

thanks.! noted and i appreciate your effort to answer my querries.. but would it be better if you modify the way you advise others.. I know you're very equipped in using this website, making threads' reply, posting, and all the stuffs.. the problem is that i am not.. so it's easier for me to ask it again.. sorry if you find this question again, and again..and as you have said, this has answered dozen times.. thanks anyway.

yup! i have to go assessment again. thanks.

Do you understand the concept of a Google search? I expect so, since you found your way to this site in the first place. This site is fully searchable using the search box at the top right corner of every page. There are also several topics stuck to the top of each page of threads that are there because they contain important and frequently sought information, such as the CRNE, SEC, links to the provincial colleges of nursing and one specifically addressed to nurses from outside of Canada. Have you tried looking at them?

Each province will want to perform an assessment of anyone who applies for registration there. That applies to Canadian nurses from other provinces as well, not just IENs. And having a license in one province is not an automatic pass to become registered in another. It is very likely that Ontario will still expect additional education for an IEN with a license from another province if they assess that individual's education as not equivalent. You're correct that once the CRNE has been passed one does not have to repeat it, but not meeting the basic educational requirements may still result in ineligibility for registration. Am I making sense?

The big question for me is, why did a person apply for registration in a province where they do not intend to live and work?

yes, i know what you mean. i actually asked her that same question via PM. it made more sense to register in Ontario right from the beginning given that she has a direct family residing in the province.

in my case it's the opposite. i registered in Ontario, but i still don't know where i should land and live. my only relative (a cousin whom i haven't met) is in Nova Scotia. but i want to work and live in Ontario. the whole looking for a place to live, and ability to support myself while looking for a job, etc. are one of the main concerns too if i don't live in N.S. when i land. :(

However, long term plan is to live and be a RN in Ontario. thus, i registered there.

thank you for the clarification! :)

Yes. I know that. I am sorry I did not specify that if she will take the exam in NS, then so be it and be based there. And if in time she really wants to work in Ontario, she might as well undergo the process of registering for the province of Ontario.

Am I correct on this? just a thought...

Registering with a province is not cheap so I would always recommend applying to the province that you plan on living and working. I am sure others will also agree

As mentioned by Jan a couple of posts above registering with another province regardless on being a Canadian or IEN requirements still need to be met

i'm a RN here in Philippines. I recently registered myself as RN in Ontario--paid the fee of $678.00 and submitted all the initial requirements for assessment. I just attended the CIIP orientation and finally confirmed that I am most likely to go through further studies before i will be eligible to take CRNE. However, with RPN/LPN, i wouldn't need to go to school in Canada.

My question is, would I be able to transfer my application from RN to RPN/LPN after assessment? if yes, would I be able to get a refund of the extra amount since RPN application is less than RN?

hope someone can answer my queries. thank you!

You have to apply to the provincial college for LPN's and I doubt you will get a refund but only way to really know is ask them

The CNO registers both RNs and PNs so it's quite possible that there could be some adjustment made in this sort of situation. But it's much less likely in the rest of the country.

i hope it is.

i'll keep in mind to ask them that the next time i call.

thank you

just need a clarification. should the JOB DESCRIPTION be sent to the CNO by the employer together with the Verification of Employment form? or is it okay that I send a copy of it together with the rest of the additional documents?

need a prompt response coz i'll be sending it tomorrow. Thank you very much! :)
