Because your experience with one nurse's incompetence necessarily implies a deficit on the part of a whole group.?When we do this sort of thing with skin color or religion it's called bigotry.
When we do this sort of thing with skin color or religion it's called bigotry.
Because that's exactly what they said.
Let us unite and set one standard for entry.
Why? Because people with higher degrees "make the rules?"
North Dakota tried it. Worked out well for 'em.

I still don't understand why any current nurse wouldn't want the educational bar raised for entry into the profession.
I also don't understand, given that most ADN programs are close to (if not equal to) bachelor education in other professions, why current/future ADN students wouldn't want to a bachelor's degree for their work rather than an associate's degree.

Because setting one education standard for entry makes sense. It would squash all this in fighting so we can move on to more important matters.
I bet there were a bunch of people that hated the idea of one standardized national Licensure test. Today we have the NCLEX, so why can't we have a standardized education for initial entry?
As long as the perception is that all nurses do is wipe butts, pass meds, carry out orders and chart, it's not likely to change.
As long as we keep pulling each other back in the barrel, things are not likely to change.

I was watching a scene from a re-run of Scrubs the other day. In that scene, Dr. Dorian asked Carla the nurse where she went to college. "Oh, I didn't go to college", she said. Then Dr. Dorian laughingly said, "Well don't tell my patients, but I didn't either." Carla was outraged by the comment. I love that comedy, & that line made me think.
If there is a standard of education for medicine, there should be a standard of education for nursing.
Let's give credit where credit is due.
Thank you for this comment!

In Aus we have a bachelor degree which will make you an RN and a diploma which will make you an EN/Div2 RN.
I think as long as the US has BSN and ASN there will be a pedestal "us versus them" mentality. Its the same as the stupid RN vs. LPN never ending argument. Who cares just do your job.
