Nursing Students ADN/BSN

Published

I am a bsn student and have 2 years left. the school I go to is ridiculously hard and add on unnecessary assignments, I have talked to other student in other bsn programs at other colleges and confirm that my school adds on so much extra crap to the class. I all my gen ed classes done and a junior now can I go to my community college and see if the can accumulate what I have with courses between gen eds and nursing classes and see if I can atleast get an associates in nursing for now. I can do my bsn at another college rn to bsn later. I financially need to go to work asap. im not lazy I work hard but enough is enough so no negative comments. thanks in advance

Nursing classes usually do not transfer, let alone between a BSN/ADN program.

I attended an associates/diploma program and we along with the other surrounding nursing schools did not accept transfer credits for nursing courses as each program was different in terms of course outlines and curriculum design. Although you have most general education requirements complete you would have to begin with Nursing I which is nursing fundamentals.

Best of Luck!

Going to get your Associates degree will not be easier. Not sure what gave you that idea. Withdraw from your school while you're still in good standing. I guess you can try another Bsn program or Associates program but research them before going into, you could be getting into a program that could be far more difficult than the one you're in. Or go to American Career College :nurse:

You will most likely be starting all over again if you drop to a community college...

In short. No, you cannot trade your current 2 years at the University for an ASN to sit for NCLEX and start practicing as an RN. This is because you have not completed the nursing core classes. You have not done enough clinical. You have not covered all content required by the BON to sit for NCLEX. The ADN program is not just the first two years at a BSN program. A BSN takes 4 years because there are extra theory classes as well as a few extra upper division gen ed courses. This means that the first 2 years are filled with mostly the general education requirements for the degree, and very little nursing related courses. Those courses are taken in the second 2 semesters. The ADN has less gen ed courses required, but you still have 1.5-2 years of pre reqs to take before getting into an ADN program. However, what is the same/similar is the nursing core courses. The state BON decides what is required of a program to meet the MINIMUM proficiency required to practice safely. I can all but guarantee that the courses you have taken will not equal an ADN. An AAS, maybe. But an AAS will not qualify you to sit for NCLEX because a nursing program has not been completed. I say suck it up and keep on trecking. You havent even gotten to the hard stuff yet. Either drop in good standing and apply for another program, or just finish this one out, or quit all together. You cant fast track this process just because you think your gen ed courses are too difficult.

just to clarify and AAS might be a nursing degree if the major is nursing.

Do not drop out of your present program until you have secured a seat in the replacement program or you may be sorry. It is not always a given that one can transfer from one program to another easily, or at all. Good luck.

"no negative comments" ?? What does that mean? You don't want to be told the truth? You already have decided what is "unnecessary" assignments. And you "confirmed" this with other students in other programs? You do realize how asinine that sounds correct? You just want "positive" comments about quitting nursing school? Ok then quit and go do something else. It is good to quit things when they get difficult and not see them through. That will build good character and help you succeed at life. There is your positive comment.

Just an update and thanks for the advice. the college I was going to starts nursing classes right away only one left is mental , and practicum . however I would still have 2.5 years left at the ridiculous college. I did find another college that does accept nursing classes I will be done in one year with a BSN and they don't have things like planning a meal for an elementary school for 300 people in one week with all food donated. so thanks to you that left the negative comment and cant follow directions, keep negative comments to yourself. thanks to those for the professional advice thanks again for your time, anything is possible it is 2015

did not mean quit nursing just the school is absolutely ridiculous. did find a college that offers a bsn will take my other nursing classes and you don't have to plan a meal for 300 people in one week with all donated food.

I can assure you that finding another nursing school that is accepting your nursing classes is the exception, not the norm. Happy to hear that you were successful in less than twenty-four hours after posting your thread. That is fast action!

I am done with all gen ed classes and have completed most nursing classes, I was looking to go to another college that did not require continuous obligations like plan a meal for 300 people in a week with donated food from business. I did find another college that will accept my nursing classes, thanks for your time.
