Recommendations for a student that started with C's but ended with A's

Published

Hi! I'm attending Santa Rosa Junior College in California. I am almost done with my pre-reqs and getting ready to apply to schools with nursing programs to earn my bachelors. One problem- I got C's in the introductory English, Biology, and Chemistry. I am unable to repeat the classes if I got a C or better. This disables me from being eligible for a couple schools that I wanted to get into. If it doesn't make me not eligible, it completely ruins my chances, my school counselor tells me. However, I have gotten A's and a B in the upper division science classes like Microbiology, Anatomy, Physiology. And have also gotten A's in the math classes I needed to transfer. I'm kicking myself for not taking my school seriously in my first year of college. But I refuse to believe this makes it impossible to get accepted into good schools. Anybody have any suggestions? Things I could do? Schools in mind that wouldn't care about the first classes on my record? Any ray of hope will help. Thank you!

Apply and see what happens. People will tell you that's not good enough. I got into an ADN program with a C in A&P I & II. Had no problem transferring to an RN to BSN program. Had no problem moving on to a BSN to DNP program that I'm in now.

Previously to applying to the program I am currently in, I started out with low grades (C to B-) and ended strong with As. My priorities early in my pre-requisite phase were not right, I didn't realize the difficulty of getting into a nursing program, etc, but when I finally got my priorities correct I ROCKED IT. All you can do it apply and find out :)

contact the nursing advisors for these programs. most of them say no if you just email them so you really have to be in their face...also, add community service hours. do other stuff to show theme are someone they would be proud of graduating from their school. three classes won't kill you.

counselors don't know everything btw... seriously if i listened to them i would have ended up doing something else.

If application fees are not an issue I would still apply.

I agree with applying and seeing what happens. I have a similar problem and just got accepted into an ADN program. I'm still waiting to hear back from the BSN program. I would really like to do the BSN program because my ultimate goal is to get my bachelors. But it's not the end of the world if I have to do the ADN program and then bridge. Funny thing about the ADN program is that the BSN program will hire the nurses from the ADN program over their BSN students because it's a great program that really prepares you. Anyway, at the end of the day if you want something bad enough you'll find a way to do it. It may take you longer, but you'll make it happen.

I think that's crazy you can't retake a class if you desire to regardless of grades!

Maybe you can look into taking those classes again at another school and transfer the credits where needed.
