recommendation dilemma

Published

Hey guys! Question, I asked my BioMedical Ethics professor (who also happens to be an RN) for a letter of recommendation to a school and she said she would be delighted to write it, HOWEVER, the other school I'm applying to requires 1 letter of recommendation. Would it be weird to ask her to send a copy to this school as well? Or should I just rack my brain and try to think of someone else who could possibly write me one? Thanks in advance!

I would say that the person who writes the letter should be the person that knows you and your passion for your education and your academic abilities. I don't think it would be a problem to ask then to send it to an additional school.

I would go ahead and let her know you are applying to two schools. I'm assuming that since she is the teacher that you thought of to ask that you do well in her class, and she knows you well. I would think if that is the case then she wouldn't mind doing two letters for you. I would think that she would probably use the same letter for each and just start out with "dear so and so of college 1, versus dear so and so of college 2". It never hurts to ask. Good luck:)

i dont see why not!

Thanks guys!

Yeah I figured she could just change who it's addressed to and such but I didn't want to seem greedy or unappreciative at the fact that she would write me the original one. I guess I'm just over-analyzing, you guys know how stressful this whole process is.

I think you are getting too paranoid. I doubt she would have a problem with it. I'm sure it's the same letter but addressed differently. Ask her.

I actually went through this similar situation myself. In the end I asked two of my professors if the would write me a recommendation letter, and make three copies, each to different recipients. Neither one had a problem with it, and were very happy to do it for me.

Make sure you thank them properly for their efforts, though! I thanked both of them with some chocolates and potted tulips (it was around Easter,) as well as a hand written thank you letter! They were both very emotional and appreciative that I took the extra step to thank them!

Good luck!!
