reasons for choosing

can anyone share the reason for choosing nursing in the first place?

whether it's stupid, practical, reasonable reasons.

thankss

I would think would one would at least have to have some type of interest in medicine to be a nurse.

Nursing doesn't have to be a calling per se, but you need an interest in medicine. Otherwise, you will be miserable.

Nurses don't get paid near enough for what we do. Believe me. I have a BSN and been a nurse for about 4 years. My husband owns a construction company and his guys who many didn't graduate high school make $2 less an hour than I do.

what do you mean by medicine exactly?

I know what it means but in your definition... thank you...

I didn't know what I wanted to do when I was 18. So I chose nursing because it offers lots of different possible types of careers. I figured I would get my basic BSN and then figure out what type of work "within nursing" would work for me. I liked that there would be lots of choices available to me.

I mean the pathology of diseases and conditions and how we treat and help people to heal. As nurses we provide care for how the patient responds to the disease or condition they have. You have to care about the whole process.

We are not doctors but we are a crucial part of thour medical team. Physicians often rely on our assessments of the patient to decide how to treat.

I've read your other posts and it seems you have no interest in the field except you think there is job security and lots of money. I would ask the nurses who were all downsized in 2011-2012 about job security. Many left the field.

I am at the point where I have several years experience and I work on a specialized unit that keeps me valuable employee. If one hospital decided to downsize, I feel fairly confident I could get a job somewhere else. But it's not like that for everyone.

8th grade. I was obsessed with ER. Julianna Margulies' character Carol Hathaway was a nurse and she was dating Dr. Doug Ross, played by George Clooney. I'm not even kinda kidding.
