Ready to Apply CT Community Colleges- Nursing Program 2012

U.S.A. Connecticut

ooops... The other one had 2011 instead of 2012... let's try this again:

Just thought I would start a new thread for the current application cycle. Questions... stats... rumors... etc!

My question is... for those applying this cycle, how did you do on the TEAS V? Since this is the first year they are using this test, it would be nice to see how everyone is doing.

(Please don't post TEAS 3 or TEAS 4 results, as the scores are NOT comparable with the TEAS V.)

Yes, I took all the pre-reqs already. This past spring I only took easy classes that we don't even need just to finish up my associates degree. (something to fall back on if I didn't get in) Last fall I did the same thing plus micro. It's been a year or so since I've taken psych. I need to freshen up on some things! I've been at NVCC for 3 years now, starting this fall it will be my 4th year there! And I've saved all my A&P and micro notes just in case for review, wish I did the same for psych!

I love you pictures!! You're getting me so excited!! I'm jealous that you got more info from NVCC and can pick up your books! CCC hasn't sent us anything and our orientation isn't for 3 weeks! I asked the bookstore when I could pick up the nursing books and they said to call in August and see if they're in! I can't wait that long!!! Maybe I'll call again...you never know, someone else may have a different answer. I don't think CCC is much bigger than NVCC but because we're in an old building in Hartford, it has 11 floors and the parking garage is down the elevators, walk down the hall, go down two escalators, walk to the exit, walk across the street to the parking garage and up some stairs there lol.

Mssjez I'm surprise they said august! They should have them for you guys over the summer so you can start preparing! Keep calling and double check at orientation. Hopefully someone will have more info! Our orientation is next Wednesday! I'm actually at my physical now waiting to be called in the room as I'm writing this lol, I'm getting all excited about books when I still have so much to do to prepare!

Help Please!

Ok so I'm confused about the Hep B vaccine. Did everyone of you get blood work done and did it come back positive?

the health form that we need to submitt asks for 3 shots of Hep B and then blood titers 2 months after the 3rd shot.

So I'm confused now...do we all have to get the Hep B shots,, regardless of whether or not we are immune to it?

Or did you guys just get the titers and if they show positive you don't do any shots? Please let me know!

@CNAstudentnurse: Great job on the FB website! I sent you a request :)

I love your idea! hopefully we can share questions/pictures/events/feelings on there :)

Thanks Nursewannabe! I was searching for a group and they didn't have any so I made one for us! Feel free to post anything!

And for the Hep B question, are you immune to it? If so then I believe you just need your lab work (titers) along with the physical form to hand in. Today when I went for my physical, I needed the mumps vaccine and supposedly according to the form I just needed prove that I had the mumps vaccine twice even though I'm not immune. I told the doctor to just give me the vaccine regardless, I didn't want to take any chances. And plus it doesn't hurt to just have the vaccine anyway. And I has my tetorifice shot which now my arm is killing me! And my ppd done, I have to go back Friday to get it checked again.

hey CNAnursingstudent. haha yea I got my tetorifice shot on monday and right now is the first time I can actually move my arm! I know that vaccine s*! I felt like fainting and hot on Monday all day after the shot...anyways...I'm going for my physical on Friday around noon, so I was wondering if you're around before that to meet up at the CT uniform store? maybe at 10:30 or 11 so we have enough time and so that I don't have to rush for my physical.

I should be immune to Hep B, but I wanted to get it anyways cause I got shots when I was younger and in 2008 I got 2 shots and missed the 3rd one. I just want to make sure I'm immune and that I don't get sick just for trying to save money haha.

anyways...let me know about Friday as soon as you know/can please. thanks :)

I'm of the generation that did not have Hep B as one of the normal childhood vaccines (old lady here..43). I had to get my Hep series when I was volunteering for our local ambulance. That was back in 1999. At that time I had my titer done to be sure of immunity and that came back + for sufficient antibodies. My school required titers be drawn. I came back + for antibodies high enough to be considered 'immune' just last year when I had my titers redrawn.

If you got the series as a kid and then you got 2 of the 3 in 2008, I wouldn't suggest getting another series (they are expensive) just get your titers drawn. Most people only need the series once to convert. Others only need boosters to convert to have enough antibodies. If you don't come back with enough antibodies to be considered to have immunity, then you can get the series again. Keep your money in your pocket until you have to shell it out :)

I only had the Hep B series as a kid and my titer came back as still having sufficient antibodies. Get the titer first. You may be fine and not need to pay for 3 rounds of shots. All of my titers came back positive for antibodies. The only shot I've gotten since my childhood shots is a Tetorifice Booster in 2009, which I have the records for and will be submitting a copy with all my stuff. I'm going to drop of my Health form today at will stop by the bookstore and check for books! I want them (just don't want to pay for them) so I can check them out and get even more excited!! Did anyone check out the May sale on allheart.com for stethescopes or anything?

Hey bedigmo!

thanks for responding. this info does help. I haven't received any updates from Norwalk. I did email a few people asking about starting this fall, but they said I could hear anything from now till August. I just wanna know!!!!! Have you received any updates???

@mssjez, how did it go dropping off the health form? I went a few weeks ago and according to the secretary the person who they go to wasn't available but said she would give it to her....when I followed up with that person via email (to make sure she got my packet) I got an automated response saying she was on vacation until February 12th! Ugh. Can you please PM the name of the person you gave it to, so I can see if I was given the right contact name? Thanks!!!
