  1. I've gotten mine too, all the NVCC students had to get theirs at this one place. I got three sets of scrubs and two lab coats. I've gotten them before orientation cause I assumed I would need a pair for class but I guess we just were regular clothes to class with the lab coat and the scrubs are for clinical. Mine fit good! You don't want your scrubs fitting too tight. From my experience, you will be moving around a lot and you want to be comfortable when your bending down and moving around. Mine are a little big but they don't fall off me lol. My tops are medium and my pants are small cause they ran big.
  2. I've gotten a couple of things for school, I got 4 large 2" binders from Costco that came together in a pack and was about 10$ for all 4 together! That's super cheap for binders! You can use one for each semester!
  3. Okay who else is over whelmed with all the stuff we need to get done before school starts? I still need to get the rest of my books, clinical uniforms are ordered but they haven't called me back yet, I signed up for BLS class which isn't until July, I have to complete all my summer work, I handed in all paperwork that needed to be handed in, my stupid loan still hasn't came yet so I can't buy the rest of my books, I'm still waiting for my stethoscope to arrive... AHH! Yet I'm still so exciting to start school already. Anywho.. I signed up for the NSNA today it was 25$ for a year, pretty excited about that too! :-)
  4. Hey there! I was accepted to St. Vincent's RN program but I declined because I was accepted to NVCC RN program afterwards (because it's closer and I've been going there for 3 years) but st. Vincent's was my back up plan if I did not get into anywhere else. Now st. Vincent's is a very prestigious nursing school to future employers. I've been told by many RNs that went there but they do require a lot more than other associate degree programs. St. Vincent's only accepts a certain amount of your credits to be transferred. They require 50% of your credits to be from st. Vincent's! So if your first choice nursing school is them I suggest you to start there from the gecko. They also require two religions classes and a philosophy class. I highly recommend going to one of their info sessions and they will explain everything there for you. I went to one and it really enlightened me to what they require and expect from you. You can sign up for one online at the website. If I lived closer to Bridgeport I would have gone there. Hope I helped! :-)
  5. Thanks Nursewannabe! I was searching for a group and they didn't have any so I made one for us! Feel free to post anything! And for the Hep B question, are you immune to it? If so then I believe you just need your lab work (titers) along with the physical form to hand in. Today when I went for my physical, I needed the mumps vaccine and supposedly according to the form I just needed prove that I had the mumps vaccine twice even though I'm not immune. I told the doctor to just give me the vaccine regardless, I didn't want to take any chances. And plus it doesn't hurt to just have the vaccine anyway. And I has my tetorifice shot which now my arm is killing me! And my ppd done, I have to go back Friday to get it checked again.
  6. For my NVCC nursing students please join my group that I made for us so we can chat more! look for NVCC Nursing Class 2014
  7. Mssjez I'm surprise they said august! They should have them for you guys over the summer so you can start preparing! Keep calling and double check at orientation. Hopefully someone will have more info! Our orientation is next Wednesday! I'm actually at my physical now waiting to be called in the room as I'm writing this lol, I'm getting all excited about books when I still have so much to do to prepare!
  8. Yes, I took all the pre-reqs already. This past spring I only took easy classes that we don't even need just to finish up my associates degree. (something to fall back on if I didn't get in) Last fall I did the same thing plus micro. It's been a year or so since I've taken psych. I need to freshen up on some things! I've been at NVCC for 3 years now, starting this fall it will be my 4th year there! And I've saved all my A&P and micro notes just in case for review, wish I did the same for psych!
  9. Nursewannabe I was gonna try to go get uniforms after I get my books. But tomorrow I just realized I have my physical at 9:45 and I don't know how long that's gonna take.. Then head to NVCC right after that. The thing is I have work at 3pm so I'm not sure if I'm gonna make it tomorrow, I hate to rush. So now I'm thinking about going Friday cause I have the whole day off. Thank you for the invite though! Feel free to join me Friday if you don't go tomorrow! If you know anyone else that's going to be in the program we should all get together and meet up! If you have a facebook I'm thinking of making a group for the NVCC nursing students class of 2014. And Thank you for the school supply advice lol :-)
  10. @nursewannabe oh my gosh love the pictures! Thank you for sharing! I'm seriously going to get everything tomorrow! You just got me really pumped up! But we still have more books to get right? If you have already bought a stethoscope, stick with that one! I have one too but it's a crappy 20$ one I use for work so I'm buying one from the school that they sent us in our information pack. I'll use that one just for school. I'll prolly go get my uniforms this week too! I was gonna wait, but everyone's gonna prolly get them after orientation. I'm LOLing at myself cause I already bought the fundamentals of nursing clinical book from Barnes and nobles and it figures they are giving that to us for free! Welp.. Anyways I have a silly question but are you buying a notebook/binder for each of the nursing books or getting one big binder for all notes/lect. I'm a super organized person and I get a little obsessive when it comes to buying school supplies, lol just wondering!
  11. Nursewannabe I had no idea we could pick up our books! I thought we had to wait until orientation to pick them up! Thank you for the heads up! I'm going tomorrow to get everything... I'll have to bring a grocery cart to carry everything out.. LOL! I'm meeting up with one girl already before orientation just so we can vent about our nerves and won't have to be alone! Feel free to meet up with us around 8am in the cafe, I know we can register at 8:30 for orientation. Are you buying any stethoscopes from them?
  12. Nursewannabe I recieved mine about a week ago... I'm waiting until orientation to start getting uniforms and we can get our books that day too. This Wednesday I have my physical and an appt to do all my vaccines, ppd, etc. And I'm just holding off on the CPR too. But man was the packet huge! I was overwhelmed with all the things we have to get done!
  13. Mssjez, nursewannabe thanks guys, yeah I better play it safe, I'll just show them my CPR card when I go for orientation if they say I need to get a new one then I'll just sign up for the ones at NVCC. Better safe than sorry! :-)
  14. So far I got fundamentals of nursing- clinical companion by potter and perry, and nursing facts made incredibly quick by lippincott Williams and Wilkins. They are small and light weight, I figure get something simple to start getting familiar with the material. As soon as I get my books I want to get the the study guides for them. I also bought this student nurse planner for school which is pretty cool too! It has facts and notes for the fundamentals of nursing and a planner section to write your assignments! All three ran about 80$... Eeeek I need to start saving money! Thanks for the links I'll check into those! :-)
  15. @mssjez I went to barnes and nobles to check out the nursing section and I remember they have a lot of those fundamentals books but they run about like 50-60$ I want to get them but I'm Just waiting to get my books from the bookstore caused for nvcc they offer a bundle pack that gives us a free book, forgot what it was, which not required for class... but it's free! So I just wanna check out that book before I buy any others. But I've already bought two of those little pocket guides for clinical.. I'm trying to resist myself from buying every book in Barnes and nobles! :-)
