Ready to Apply CT Community Colleges- Nursing Program 2012

U.S.A. Connecticut

ooops... The other one had 2011 instead of 2012... let's try this again:

Just thought I would start a new thread for the current application cycle. Questions... stats... rumors... etc!

My question is... for those applying this cycle, how did you do on the TEAS V? Since this is the first year they are using this test, it would be nice to see how everyone is doing.

(Please don't post TEAS 3 or TEAS 4 results, as the scores are NOT comparable with the TEAS V.)

@mssjez, how did it go dropping off the health form? I went a few weeks ago and according to the secretary the person who they go to wasn't available but said she would give it to her....when I followed up with that person via email (to make sure she got my packet) I got an automated response saying she was on vacation until February 12th! Ugh. Can you please PM the name of the person you gave it to, so I can see if I was given the right contact name? Thanks!!!

I stopped into the secretary's office on the eighth floor. She is a shorter woman with dark hair. When you come off the elevator (or in my case, stairs..sheesh, it's going to be a long two years)and take the first right, it's the second door on the left.

And here's a Facebook group for everyone at CCC too!

@saramisu, Thanks for the info. Hmmmm...IIRC, I think I dropped it off in the first door on the left, but it DID say "nursing secretary" there, I think.

I'll probably swing by and double check next week though. Thanks for setting up the FB group!

I also dropped it off to the second door on the left, which said nursing secretary. I don't know if she was short because she was sitting down but she took it, looked it over and said it looked good. I asked if they wanted a copy of my last Tetorifice record because it didn't say but they wanted copies of labs... she said no. I asked her if she knew if the bookstore had any of our books. She said she's heard from other students that they don't, but in our orientation packet, it will have the list of books we'll be needing for the first semester and they should have more info regarding when they will be available at the bookstore.

@CTDon - why don't you just call the secretary and check, that way you don't have to drive in. I don't remember her name... sorry!

@Saramisu - thanks for setting up the fb page. I requested to join.

NVCC students!!! Orientation tomorrow morning at 9am, registration starts at 830am, please don't forget you have to come!!! Can't wait to meet all of the future NVCC nursing students :)

My stethoscope has arrived!!! Also, these are the shoes I got...

Hey everybody! Just a reminder- Please please please make sure you're registered for NUR101 and the school didn't kick you out bc of not receiving fees/payments/letters...whatever it is! Don't forget, deadline to register for NUR101 is tomorrow (June 1st!), so if you're not registered by then, you will be kicked out! I just checked...NVCC: there are still 7 openings. If they don't fill up on June 1st, I'm assuming the school will apply those seats to the waitlist! So the first 7 waitlisted for NVCC should be in! Again, pleeeease make sure you're registered and paid your fees/tuition (whatever you agreed on with the school), so that you won't lose your seats! have a great night guys!

@mssjez: nice! great, thanks for sharing your pictures with us! I actually got very similiar shoes, if not even the same :) the stethoscope looks great :)

Definitely not proud of this, but I've been polar opposite of most of you. You all hopped right on registering and buying books and all... I got accepted to Capital and we have our orientation next Friday, the 15th. I saw on the letter that a professor will be going over the Medication Calculation book and software then. Do we have to bring that with us? I haven't purchased it yet. Will get kicked into high gear with getting it, if so. Other than health form and registering, is there anything else that has to get done/purchased/whatever by the 15th? I feel like a loser already posting this, but I don't want to lose my spot because I missed something minor. Thanks in advance for the guidance!

Hey CTlmt! don't worry! don't feel like a loser! I feel like a loser cause I didn't understand the first part of your post haha!

Anyways...I'm starting in the fall at NVCC...we had our orientation one week ago. we didn't have to bring anything. They showed us all the requiered books (which were on sale at the bookstore two days later), there was one lady who went over the calculations with us...all she did was explain the conversions (metric-us) to us and gave us a sheet of paper with all the formulas. it also said we should study chapter 1-4 in the summer, and chapters 5-10 will be assigned when school starts. the math exam is at the end of october (need 90% to pass, you have 3 trials, otherwise you need to leave the program). before we left we had to sign the "Technical Standard" form (which you should have received in one on of the letters by mail) and fill out 2 papers regarding the background check. you werent allowed to leave without filling both things out, otherwise they would cancel your seat. and then we went over the Nursing Student Handbook, which you can find on my.commnet.edu. the teacher had printed it for us (it's about 50 pages I think). we need to read it over the summer and then sign a paper at school on the first day of class (we need to acknowledge that we read the book and understand all the rules, grading, bla bla bla). during break we were able to order stethoscopes and the other stuff and also join the nursing student association for $25. I think that's it. we need to submit our health form by july 14th (or 16th), CPR by the first day of class. so you don't need to bring anything...but I would bring with me all the forms and papers they sent you by mail, just in case there is something wrong..you never know! and always make copies of everything you hand in, and when you get a chance at school, ask them to sign/date your copies, so that in case the school loses something, you have the proof that you submitted it!

and start doing your blood titers/vaccines NOW as they might take months to finish up...and the last thing I suggest is to start reading yoru book...they gave us a syllabus for the first week...oh boy, 4 huge chapters to read in the fundamentals book plus all the lab skills and we need to watch all the videos they will post on blackboards about 2 weeks before school starts haha...so we got a lot of homework already :) I would also suggest to study all 10 chapters in the calculation/math book, it's really just basic math...so that when school starts you can focus on your fundamentals book and don't have to worry about the math part...you know what I mean? I hope that helps :) send me a message if you have furhter questions! I'm happy to help :)

CCC has there math test the first week of school. Each school is different even the books are different. GCC didn't have books until a week before classes started our math test for 101 was in October we had assigned homework but no review at all.

Okay who else is over whelmed with all the stuff we need to get done before school starts? I still need to get the rest of my books, clinical uniforms are ordered but they haven't called me back yet, I signed up for BLS class which isn't until July, I have to complete all my summer work, I handed in all paperwork that needed to be handed in, my stupid loan still hasn't came yet so I can't buy the rest of my books, I'm still waiting for my stethoscope to arrive... AHH! Yet I'm still so exciting to start school already. Anywho.. I signed up for the NSNA today it was 25$ for a year, pretty excited about that too! :-)

I'm not overwhelmed with the things to get done as much as I'm overwhelmed about the cost of everything. At this point I've spent the same amount as tuition on all of these 'to dos' (stethoscope, physical/titers, scrubs, books, background check, lab kit, etc.). I haven't even gone shopping for school supplies yet! I am still super excited for school starting though! Not nervous yet, check back in two months!!! :yeah:
