Ready to Apply CT Community Colleges- Nursing Program 2012

U.S.A. Connecticut

ooops... The other one had 2011 instead of 2012... let's try this again:

Just thought I would start a new thread for the current application cycle. Questions... stats... rumors... etc!

My question is... for those applying this cycle, how did you do on the TEAS V? Since this is the first year they are using this test, it would be nice to see how everyone is doing.

(Please don't post TEAS 3 or TEAS 4 results, as the scores are NOT comparable with the TEAS V.)

Hi everybody! I just wanted to share something with you guys...I did a lot of homework yesterday cause I had the day off. I went to the NVCC Cashiers office to pay for tuition, then to the bookstore to pick up the first NUR bundle that was available (that one that costs about $312,, there is another bundle for $80, which will arrive soon). When the girl showed me the bundle, I almost got a heart attack and I couldn't stop laughing. It was a big box, weighing over 10/15 pounds for sure! She asked me to get one off the shelf, it was so heavy I dropped it and then I couldn't lift it off the floor...because I had to laugh so much. I told her I didn't have time to read all those books and I would pay $600 if I only had to read one hahaha the deal didn't go well! So anyways...just be prepared when you pick up the $312 NUR bundle! It's really heavy and it consists of 8 books I believe (if I can count right). I would suggest you buy this one instead of buying all books septerately online on amazon or other websites. I think $312 is a great deal for all of the books! plus there is a little handbook, which I really like! It summarizes important things like resistant microbes, dosage calculations, important terminology....I really like it! You can take it any where you go and just read it. Oh and I also got my nursing Skill pack at the bookstore, it was in stock! I'm talking about NVCC guys! anyways...there was no way I could carry both to the car at once so I had to go twice haha. The girl was like: You want to take it too? It's available right now! I looked at her and was just like: LOL if I can carry it hahahaha

I also went to the store CT Uniforms, they are doing our uniforms. I bought compressor socks, which a re long up to the knees, I really like them. I also bought a keychain haha

anyways! enjoy the journey and have fun before school starts! Don't forget it was an HONOR to be accepted, let's to the best! don't listen to people, even friends, if they're jealous or something. Just do what ever you have to do and have fun!

If there are people who want to meet up from NVCC or start a study group, please let me know!!!

@NurseWannaBe86 - I really hope I can carry our bundle at CCC! Our bookstore is on the 7th floor and I can't imagine having to make two trips carrying it in the elevators and across the street to the parking garage!!

Nursewannabe I had no idea we could pick up our books! I thought we had to wait until orientation to pick them up! Thank you for the heads up! I'm going tomorrow to get everything... I'll have to bring a grocery cart to carry everything out.. LOL! I'm meeting up with one girl already before orientation just so we can vent about our nerves and won't have to be alone! Feel free to meet up with us around 8am in the cafe, I know we can register at 8:30 for orientation. Are you buying any stethoscopes from them?

@mssjz: lol good luck! what were they thinking to locate the bookstore on the 7th floor haha! is that a big college? 7 floors seems like a big school!

Bring scisscors with you just in case you have to cut the package open and take some books out of it. But maybe it's just me who had the problem, I'm a small skinny girl so carrying that package was too much for me. I'm not very strong. let me know how it goes!!!!

@ CNAnursingstudent: I looked online to see if some books were available and NVCC's bookstore website says that the NUR bundle and the nursing skills pack were available and since I had the day off I decided to get the books :) You can wait till orientation, but I was excited to get them earlier plus I have to run to work after orientation, so I won't have time to go to the bookstore!

and I am not buying the stethoscope from them, because I have one at home that I never used. I wanted to take a CNA class 3 years ago, bought everything, then changed my mind last minute cause I lost my job and didn't have the time for the CNA class. But I will ask at orientation if that stethoscope is ok, it has a purple color, I don't know if there are any color requirements. We can also get the uniforms at the store if we want, instead of ordering them on orientation. I have to get my physical this week (not sure what day exactly), so I want to stop by at the uniform store to order them, so if you're around you can join me :)

I'm doing as much as I can this week cause I'm on vacation! starting next week I will work up to 50hours to make extra money and then work part-time throughout nursing school. So I'm a little under pressure to get everything done this week!

thanks for reading my comments!

I will try to add a picture of the box and the nursing skills pack in here...I just don't know if it works out so hold on guys give me a few min

that's the books with the biggest book on top

I took a few things out of the nursing skills pack..there's more inside :) I love the IV fluid bags haha.

I hope you like my pictures! Let me know how it goes when you pick up your stuff! I'm so excited :)

@nursewannabe oh my gosh love the pictures! Thank you for sharing! I'm seriously going to get everything tomorrow! You just got me really pumped up! But we still have more books to get right? If you have already bought a stethoscope, stick with that one! I have one too but it's a crappy 20$ one I use for work so I'm buying one from the school that they sent us in our information pack. I'll use that one just for school. I'll prolly go get my uniforms this week too! I was gonna wait, but everyone's gonna prolly get them after orientation. I'm LOLing at myself cause I already bought the fundamentals of nursing clinical book from Barnes and nobles and it figures they are giving that to us for free! Welp.. Anyways I have a silly question but are you buying a notebook/binder for each of the nursing books or getting one big binder for all notes/lect. I'm a super organized person and I get a little obsessive when it comes to buying school supplies, lol just wondering!

hey CNAnursingstudent: at what time are you planing on going to NVCC? would you like to meet and go to the CT Uniform store with me? I might be in Waterbury on Thursday or Friday again for my physical, but I'm getting my Hep B shot there tomorrow (I live half hour away from Waterbury). If you would like to go with me, let me know at what time you are free to go. And bring the order form that our school send us. the store is only 5min (2 miles) from NVCC.

and to your question. I feel the same as you, I'm trying to be organized lol. I bought 3 of the big binders from our bookstore that say NVCC on them, I really like them. I haven't figured out all the storage for books/lecture stuff out yet, but I would suggest to buy a few binders, organizers, planners, I'm sure they will tell us at orientation what we should get. anyways, let me know if you want to meet tomorrow :)

Nursewannabe I was gonna try to go get uniforms after I get my books. But tomorrow I just realized I have my physical at 9:45 and I don't know how long that's gonna take.. Then head to NVCC right after that. The thing is I have work at 3pm so I'm not sure if I'm gonna make it tomorrow, I hate to rush. So now I'm thinking about going Friday cause I have the whole day off. Thank you for the invite though! Feel free to join me Friday if you don't go tomorrow! If you know anyone else that's going to be in the program we should all get together and meet up! If you have a facebook I'm thinking of making a group for the NVCC nursing students class of 2014. And Thank you for the school supply advice lol :-)

ok sounds great! Friday works for me! I know that allforthekids is accepted to NVCC as well, I don't know if she's still reading our posts. Maybe we can grab lunch and go to the store, that sounds like a lot of fun! good luck getting your books tomorrow and we talk more about friday. btw...did you take Microbio and PSY already? I did, I'm taking the second PSY class over the summer now.
