Ready to Apply CT Community Colleges- Nursing Program 2012

U.S.A. Connecticut

Published

ooops... The other one had 2011 instead of 2012... let's try this again:

Just thought I would start a new thread for the current application cycle. Questions... stats... rumors... etc!

My question is... for those applying this cycle, how did you do on the TEAS V? Since this is the first year they are using this test, it would be nice to see how everyone is doing.

(Please don't post TEAS 3 or TEAS 4 results, as the scores are NOT comparable with the TEAS V.)

Glad you liked them. On the downside, I went to a health clinic to get the health form filled out (I don't have a PCP) and so I just went to a local health clinic for my titers... insurance wont cover anything required by a "third party" (aka employment, school, etc.) and so $620 dollars later... I have my physical, PPD, and titers for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, and Hep B.

I guess that'll get taken out of grocery money for the next few months.

@mssjez: hey $620 is a lot :( did all of your titers come back positive or do you have to get any vaccines done, cause they will add up as well :( I was wondering about the Hep B vaccine... I know I need to get it, and the health form says we need to get 2 doses before we submit the paper....so i wasn't gonna do the Hep B titers now, you think that's ok if I just get the vaccine? I know I need it and I don't want to spend money on the titer.

I would suggest to get the dosage calculation book soon and start studying, cause we are gonna have an exam in the third week of school I think...we have to pass! good luck on that!!!

are you all getting more excited? After my final in microbiology last night I am feeling much more excited about nursing school!!! hope you do as well! and it would be nice if we could continue talking on here and give each other advice :) keep it up my friends!

No, no, no, mssjez...you are thinking about it all wrong! Keep the money in the grocery budget because you have to eat...take it out of 'entertainment'. After all, we'll be too busy studying to have a life!! :lol2:

Thanks for linking to those pharm cards. I'm going to spend some time this summer downloading useful stuff like that from this site into a folder -- to refer back to later so I don't have to search through here looking for them when I need them!

Nursewannabe86, if you KNOW you need the vaccine, it makes sense to go that route. Although it probably wouldn't hurt to check with them to get a final say. BTW, congrats on finishing up Micro!!!

I have ordered all of the books except the major one ( I forget what it's called, but not the pocket guide and not the dosage calc. guide). I got them both for under $90 on half.com.

Has anyone ordered scrubs yet? Not sure where to get them, I was going to wait for orientation, but I found some nice, white shoes on allhearts.com.

My status still hadn't changed on commnet, although I was registered for the class. I went to admissions yesterday, she clicked on something, and it was all set. I'm still waiting for all of my credits to transfer through, and my enrollment verification to be accepted.

Is anyone going to be changing their employment status from full time work to part time work? I am doing so in August, so that's wearing on me pretty heavy too, but, it's all gonna be worth it!

If anyone going to CCC wants to meet up before orientation, or even after, we totally should! I could use all the moral support I can get at this point, lol :uhoh21:

Nursewannabe, I would just go ahead and get the shot also. Even if you got it as a kid, you probably do not have immunity to it anymore. I got my tb test and tetinus shot done, now I just need my hep b shots and flu(later), yay I'm so excited for more vaccines:no:, I don't even like taking Tylenol, so this is a lot for me, ha!!

All of my titers came back positive - no shots for me. I got Hep B when I was a kid and still have sufficient antibodies. Most adults don't need the shots again unless they are immunocompromised. NurseWannaBe86 - did you have the shots as a kid? They are a three shot series but maybe the booster is two?

I am getting very excited. I got my shoes at Zappos.com - All white, non-slip, leather, NewBalance Walking shoes. I'm waiting til orientation to worry about scrubs. They will give us the specific style and color number of the scrubs we can order, from the specific company that puts the CCNP logo on the scrub sleeve and lab coat sleeve. I rented Nurse Jackie from Netflix since I've heard so much about it. It was interested, then the dvd started skipping and wouldn't play. I guess it was meant to be...

CTDon - I've started my folder of things I find on this site too, including survival mantras. Can't hurt right? I can't take the money out of my entertainment budget because while we won't have a life in nursing school, I have one now and want to do things during the summer to enjoy my freedom! (I'm going white water rafting sunday in Mass!)

Saramisu - so you ordered the dosage calc and pocket guide but not the bundle? I also found those cheap on half.com. But that bundle doesn't list the books that are in it. The bookstore said to call in August and it should be in by then.

Has anyone bought the recommended books? One was Fluid and Electrolytes Made Incredibly Easy, the other was Fundamental Success...there may have been one more...

Hey guys does any of you already have your CPR from the past years? I've had mine for about 4 years now and I always renew it every year. They recently changed the expiration on the cards. It used to be every year now it's every 2 years. Im good for another year I just hope they accept it, plus the reason why I'm worried is because when you renew your card they pretty much only retest you on the adult CPR and we are required to have adult, child, and infant. I know all three but its not specific on my card. I just hope they don't make me renew it and end up paying when I can renew it for free at work next year. Ugh advice anyone?

@mssjez I went to barnes and nobles to check out the nursing section and I remember they have a lot of those fundamentals books but they run about like 50-60$ I want to get them but I'm

Just waiting to get my books from the bookstore caused for nvcc they offer a bundle pack that gives us a free book, forgot what it was, which not required for class... but it's free! So I just wanna check out that book before I buy any others. But I've already bought two of those little pocket guides for clinical.. I'm trying to resist myself from buying every book in Barnes and nobles! :-)

I have my CPR from the American Red Cross. The class we need is the one specifically for Health Care Professionals/Professional Rescuer (I believe the American Heart Associate calls it Basic Life Support). It is a different class than regular CPR.

Barnes and Noble and Staples are my two weaknesses for shopping! CNAnursingstudent - what pocket guides did you get?

does anyone know what edition of the perry and potter book they are using? The title is Fundamentals of Nursing... i know last year it was 7th ed... but there is a new edition on amazon

So far I got fundamentals of nursing- clinical companion by potter and perry, and nursing facts made incredibly quick by lippincott Williams and Wilkins. They are small and light weight, I figure get something simple to start getting familiar with the material. As soon as I get my books I want to get the the study guides for them. I also bought this student nurse planner for school which is pretty cool too! It has facts and notes for the fundamentals of nursing and a planner section to write your assignments! All three ran about 80$... Eeeek I need to start saving money! Thanks for the links I'll check into those! :-)

@CNAnursingstudent: you need to get the Professional rescuer CPR just like mssjez said and it has to include infant, child, adult. There are classes held at NVCc over the summer for $90, I'm sure every college does it. I would suggest u het this one including all 3, cause you know how they are, they gonna kick us out for anything...Just my suggestion
