Ready to Apply CT Community Colleges- Nursing Program 2012

U.S.A. Connecticut

ooops... The other one had 2011 instead of 2012... let's try this again:

Just thought I would start a new thread for the current application cycle. Questions... stats... rumors... etc!

My question is... for those applying this cycle, how did you do on the TEAS V? Since this is the first year they are using this test, it would be nice to see how everyone is doing.

(Please don't post TEAS 3 or TEAS 4 results, as the scores are NOT comparable with the TEAS V.)

livetolearn what were your stats if you dont mind? so i can have another reason to panic all weekend..

eerrmm-feeling the same, i should be studying for my micro exam - having a harder time than usual! Just out of curiousity, did anyone tell you what your TEAS grade *SHOULD* be in order to feel safe? I took the IV, and I was told to shoot for an 83, which coincidentally, i got on both versions (really frustrating, I took the V over and over and didn't budge) When I went to the info session, the woman said she was guessing a 67 would be a safe score, but it looks like lots of people are well above that. My TEAS score is what's making me the most nervous for some reason....

@saramisu: I don't think you really have to worry about the TEAS score...the schools are using the ranking system to accept students, which means that they count all thre requirements together and assign you a ranking number, that's why I'm thinking. so, let's say you have a 4.0 GPA, since that counts 50%, your score for that is 50. Let's say you had 100 on the TEAS, that would give you 25 points. So now, you have 75 points out of 100 (50GPA, 25 TEAS, 25 A&P). so do you know what I mean? even if you had a better GPA than I and a lower TEAS than me, we could have the same ranking number. So the highest ranking number is 100. I'm not sure how to explain it exactly haha but I hope you understand what I mean. Plus, 83 on the TEAS V is great! I don't think you have to worry about that from what I read in other posts. So if you calculate 83 on the test multiplied by 25 percent, your ranking score should be 20.75. so the better your grades/scores, the higher your ranking number, but it doesn't really matter if you have a 4.0 GPA and 80 on TEAS, or 3.8 GPA and 90 on TEAS. You know what I mean?? Again, that's how I think they assign the ranking numbers.

Congrats to those whose page said they were accepted. As for the rest of us possibly waitlisted, keep your heads up. I've heard from current students that a lot of people got taken in off the waitlist. So no worries. I applied to nvcc, i got an A in a&p and an 82 on the teas. My gpa is tricky because i have another degree and the whole past 5 years thing complicated it, my question is: so i took a class within the past 5 yrs, got a bad grade then recently retook that class and got a better grade. Does the new grade replace the old grade or is what counts toward the prereqs a combination of the two grades? Sounds silly but i'm really wondering.

I am not sure...... i would assume it would still count twords the gpa but say you got a c in a and p, then retook it for an a, they would count the a twords ranking?? just a guess

I believe I read that if you took a class at the school of your choice, then retook it else where they don't count the grade, but if you take it with the school of first choice the do. I don't recall where I read it, maybe in the nursing information hand book. At least that's what I got out of what I read. I didn't pay real close attention to it because it's not was I was looking for at the time and was just skimming over everything.

For those who asked what my stats were, I received an A in A&P, GPA is 3.7 and TEAS score was 79. From the scores I've seen posted many of you have similar stats, it's best to compare to those who are applying to the same school as you are, I Applied to TRCC for 1st choice. Since they don't choose entirely by rank you'll never truly know for sure if you made it on rank or by lottery. Especially if your stats are very close to other applicants.

saramisu - The TEAS V is what makes me feel uncertain too. No, no one mentioned the score I should've been aiming for.. I was taking all my prereqs at Tunxis thinking I was going to apply to the dental hygiene program and had no clue that a 2 year RN program even existed until late last summer. When I found out about it, I was ecstatic to see that I had already taken the prereqs and most of the coreqs. I saw the requirement for taking the TEAS V and signed up to take it in December figuring it was plenty of time to study and then in my happy daze at having discovered this program I promptly forgot all about it until literally TWO NIGHTS BEFORE. Probably one of the more irresponsible things I've ever done. I took it and got an 82. Felt pretty bad about it because I'd worked so hard for my GPA and I felt like I may have just ruined my chances of getting in. I wanted to take it again but right after I called CCC to set up a time to take the Computer test (the only prereq I hadn't done, so I'd talked to someone at CCC when I first saw the program & they explained it as if you could just come in & take it whenever you wanted) and found out that it was only given at certain times & I was SOL. I freaked. Then I tried calling Three Rivers to see if they might be giving the test & she told me to "take the CLEP Computer exam, it's your only hope". So I had to study my orifice off for that (this was now January!) and never got to take the TEAS V again. :( It does make me feel slightly better that you took it a couple times and still got the same score. That may have happened to me too, so it may not really matter I guess...

Thanks nursewannabe, you're right! It's hard to keep that in perspective. EERRMM, the last time I took it was close to the end of the deadline, and I was still ranked in the 95th percentile for our program..so I think there's hope!! I studied for two months before, so I don't think all the preparation in the world could work, but it's still frustrating. In any case, it's a thorn in my side.

Waitlisted for CCC

Hmm, i think i will call nvcc tomorrow and ask about the grade replacement policy. Thanks for the input :)

Marija2012 - Sorry to hear that. Hopefully your number is high on the wait list so you may be called in after all. Did you get to the link through the tax notification & then the search box? Just wondering because you're the first person I've seen from CCC that had anything other than the old requirements met and check back often status.
